Tom Marvolo Riddle

Tom Marvolo Riddle was an English half-blood Wizard, son to Merope Gaunt, and Tom Riddle a Muggle. The Gaunts were an ancient, and formerly wealthy, wizarding family, noted for producing individuals with violent and unstable personalities due to generations of inbreeding, direct descendants of Salazar Slytherin himself. Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on 31 December, 1926 at Wool’s Orphanage in London. His mother Merope staggered to the door of the orphanage, gave birth to Tom there, and died shortly after. Riddle grew up in the dingy orphanage, completely unaware of his wizarding heritage. Since the Muggle orphanage staff did not know anything about his mother, they did not know about his magical background. Instead, they believed that Merope was a circus worker, as Mrs Cole told Dumbledore shortly before his first meeting with Riddle. It is unknown whether or not the staff relayed this to Riddle before his first encounter with Dumbledore.

Despite his ignorance of his mother’s true background, Riddle did have some grasp on his abilities beyond that of normal magical children of his same age, and an unusually high degree of control over them. He could move objects with his mind and cause them to float wherever he wished, manipulate animals and creatures as he wished, speak Parseltongue, and use his power to inflict harm on other orphans.

After getting into a fight with fellow orphan Billy Stubbs, he used his powers to hang the boy’s rabbit from the rafters. On one occasion, he took two other orphans, Dennis Bishop and Amy Benson, into a cave, where he performed an act so horrifying that the two orphans were traumatised into silence. Afterwards, he may have told them, in some means, not to tell anyone what happened in the cave. Riddle also stole from other orphans and hid their things in his cupboard like trophies.

At the age of 11 Tom was visited by Albus Dumbledore who at the time was teaching Transfiguration at the orphanage, at first he thought he was some kind of doctor or psychiatric, he only believed in what he was saying when Dumbledore used the Fire-Freezing charm on Tom’s cabinet. He told him off because of the stolen objects, and reminded him that thieves are not tolerated at Hogwarts.

Tom pointed out to Dumbledore of his skills in talking to snakes, by the way even if that was a skill often connected to Dark Wizard at the time Dumbledore didn’t suspected anything. Aside the other children, Tom immediately develops a charm for everything that’s uncommon, in fact it’s known that he disliked his name because ‘too popular’ among the muggles, when Dumbledore told him he was a Wizard he was surprised no at all, he was ravished by the idea of having something the other children didn’t have, he also started to develop such a fear towards death, a very uncommon thing if you think about his very young age, at a point he will be heard to claim his mother a ‘loser’ and ‘for sure not a which’ otherwise she would have avoid such a terrible destiny. Dumbledore provided Riddle with enough information to find Diagon Alley and Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. He also provided Riddle with a stipend from school funds so that he could purchase his books and equipment. Travelling on his own to Diagon Alley, Riddle bought some second-hand robes and spell books for himself, along with his wand — thirteen-and-a-half inches, yew, phoenix feather core — at Ollivander’s

Riddle was educated at Hogwarts from 1938 to 1945, and was sorted into Slytherin House, a nod to his ancestor Salazar Slytherin. During summer breaks, he was forced to return to the Muggle orphanage, which he despised and dreaded more than any other place on earth. Over time, Riddle gathered to himself a gang of Slytherin thugs, a motley composition of “the weak seeking protection, the ambitious seeking some shared glory, and the thuggish gravitating toward a leader who could show them more refined forms of cruelty,” most of which would become the first Death Eaters. Due to his exceptional acting abilities, he was able to convince virtually all of the Hogwarts staff and instructors that this facade was his true personality. The sole exception to this was Dumbledore, who, though not necessarily suspicious of Riddle, never forgot about his misdeeds at the orphanage, nor his unsettling behaviour during their first meeting. In turn, Riddle realised that he had been careless in showing Dumbledore his true character upon their first meeting, and never attempted to win him over as he had with his other instructors. In time, he came to fear and despise Dumbledore. The Professor who he got closer the most was Professor Slughorn, who was the one Tom asked his questions about the Horcruxes.

He started to conduct some resource about his father about who he still have no news, he looked through all the Hogwarts records, but finding no ‘Riddle’ he was forced to accept that his father was a Muggle, and was his mother the witch of the family: this was the time when he started to make himself called Lord Voldemort. He acquired the middle name Marvel from his grand-father, and discovered that the blood line of his mother conducted directly to Salazar Slytherin, after this short after he found out about the Chamber of Secrets. Being the Heir of Slytherin he was able to open the Chamber, and started to purge the school of those who were unworthy to his eyes, so muggle-born. He manage to kill a girl who these-days infests the girl bathroom on the 2nd floor: Myrtle Warren.

After this accident he asked the headmaster Armando Dippet to stay at school for the summer break, by the way the headmaster informed him that given the recent events the school would have been closed if the one to blame haven’t been caught. Fearing that he would have to return to the orphanage, Tom framed a Gryffindor student, Rubeus Hagrid and his ‘pet’ an Acromantula. Hagrid was expelled, and his wand revoked, this awarded Tom who was a Prefect at the time, a trophy for Special Services to the School. Distrusting Riddle, Dumbledore kept an “annoyingly close” watch on him after that. Due to this, Riddle realised that he would not be able to risk opening the Chamber while still a student. As such, he preserved a part of his soul within his own school diary, the very first of his seven Horcruxes, hoping it would one day lead someone to finish Salazar Slytherin’s “noble work”.

Around August 1943 Riddle went back to his family house in Little Hangleton, the Gaunt’s. Here he found out the story about his Muggle father told by his uncle Morfin, and right after with his wand brandished he went to the Riddle Manson, where he murdered his father, grandmother, and grandfather with the killing curse. Riddle covered up his crimes by altering Morfin’s memory, causing him to believe that he was the killer. When the Ministry of Magic investigated the crime, Morfin, who had previously served three years in Azkaban for using magic in front of and against Muggles, freely admitted to the deed and was sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban, Tom took from his uncle as trophy the family ring.

During the sixth year Tom started to get closer to the ritual for the creation of the Horcrux, he consulted several books even in the restricted section, though he couldn’t understand properly how to do it, so he asked Professor Slughorn to clear it out for him. The information he was more curious about was the highest possible number into which splitting a soul, his target was 7 an no book, or historical record had such number in it. Slughorn at the time answered all his questions believing it was just for academic purpose. Tom supposedly travelled there, where he killed an unlucky passant creating the Third Horcrux. During Riddle’s seventh year at Hogwarts, he was made Head Boy, earned outstanding marks in every examination he took, and received a Medal for Magical Merit. Riddle was regarded as one of the most brilliant students ever to attend Hogwarts, a fact admitted by Dumbledore himself.

After graduating, Riddle immediately approached Dippet and asked him for a chance to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts, and to remain at Hogwarts, for reasons that he did not confide with the then-headmaster — Hogwarts being his true home at heart, using the influential position as a teacher to recruit students into his future army, and to continue to learn the castle’s magical secrets. Dippet rejected this offer, deeming the boy too young, but invited Riddle to reapply in a few years, if he was still interested in the post, something that Dumbledore heavily advised against. Before leaving definitely he managed to ask Helena Ravenclaw the position of the Diadem of her mother’s, persuading her that he was intentioned to destroy it. She told him it was located in a hollow tree, in a forest in Albania; He was offered several position at the Ministry of Magic, but he ended up working at Borgin and Burkes, during this time Riddle set to persuading witches and wizards to part with their valuable magical heirlooms — a job at which he was very good.

While working at Borgin and Burkes, he befriended with Hepizbah Smith, a far yet direct descendant of Helga Hufflepuff, she showed him her most valuable treasure, her ancestor’s locket, and Helga’s personal legendary cup. Tom’s eyes flashed red at the sight of those treasures, by using a “Little known poison”, to steal these coveted objects and vanished without a trace. He again covered his tracks well by implanting another false memory into an innocent bystander — Hokey, Hepzibah’s house-elf. Hokey admitted to accidentally putting poison into Hepzibah’s cocoa, which was believed, as Hokey was elderly herself. Meanwhile, Riddle immediately resigned his post at Borgin and Burkes and fled with the cup and locket, subsequently turning them into two more Horcruxes using the murders of Hepzibah and an unidentified Muggle tramp.

Riddle disappeared for ten long years. He slipped deeper into the Dark Arts, travelled extensively, consorted with disreputable people, began to become distorted in appearance and lose his handsomeness due to splitting his soul so many times, and began to use the alias “Lord Voldemort” openly. He also severed contact with Slughorn, who became upset for not living up to the Potions Master’s employment offers. Ten years after Hepzibah Smith’s murder, Riddle appealed once more to the Headmaster of Hogwarts, now Albus Dumbledore, for the position of Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts. After a short, superficially amiable chat, Dumbledore directly confronted Riddle regarding why he had requested the position, as he knew full well that Riddle had no desire whatsoever to teach. Riddle, unable to make an open request of Dumbledore due to the malicious nature of his true intentions, simply left after a final, gentle rebuke from his former teacher. From that day on, Hogwarts was never able to keep a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher for more than a year, which was attributed by Dumbledore to a curse by Riddle. The visit to Hogwarts was not fruitless, however, for Riddle used the opportunity to hide the diadem in the Room of Requirement, where he believed it would never be found.

Voldemort, as Riddle was now exclusively called, spent the next few years before the First Wizarding War gathering followers in witches and wizards who called themselves, collectively, Death Eaters. At some point around this time, Voldemort greatly enhanced his skills in Legilimency, to the point that he quickly earned a reputation as the greatest Legilimens alive. Voldemort could read, control and unhinge the minds of others, and could almost always tell when he was being lied to. According to Severus Snape, Voldemort often enjoyed telepathically invading the minds of others, creating visions designed to torture them into madness. Only after extracting the last exquisite ounce of agony, only when he had them literally begging for death, would he finally kill them.

In 1970 Voldemort started the first Wizarding War, recruiting giants, dementors, dark creatures as Acromantulas, werewolves, and goblins; these tried to claim their right in using a wand, but they were never allowed, later Voldemort tired of their indecision killed a Goblin family near Nottingham. Voldemort caused tantrum those years, as the Ministry was forced to face many trials and had to find out who was under the Imperius spell, and who was seriously helping the Dark Lord, unfortunately many innocent people were sent to Azkaban. Under the staunch protection of Dumbledore, the only person Voldemort truly feared, Hogwarts remained a safe place of learning throughout the entire war. The Order of the Phoenix was created by Dumbledore at this time to fight against Voldemort. The war itself lasted for eleven long years.

In 1979 Voldemort decided to test the security of his Horcruxes, so he asked Regulus Black a faithful 18 years old Death Eater to lend him his House-elf Kreacher, he went to the cave where he had hidden the Locket of Salazar Slytherin and forced the elf to drink the potion which was to guard the locket. Sure that the elf would have died he left him there and fled, but Kreacher managed to save him self with the house-elf magic, and warned his Master Regulus about the Dark Lord. Regulus understood that Voldemort was trying to reach the immortality and stole the true locket replacing it with a fake; Voldemort gave the Diary to be concealed in his Manor to Lucious Malfoy, and hid the Helga Hufflepuff’s cup into Bellatrix Lestrange‘s vault. He returned to Gaunt’s shack, placed the ring inside a golden box and hid it beneath the shack’s rotting floorboard, setting up many protective enchantments to deter outsiders from entering the shack and finding the ring. He also placed a powerful curse on the ring as well, one that would quickly lead to the death of the ring’s wearer if not stemmed.

Severus Snape overheard at the Hog’s Head the prophecy that Sybil Trelawney spoke during a job interview with Dumbledore, even if he managed to hear only part of it, before being thrown out by the Hog’s Head landlord: Aberforth Dumbledore. Snape immediately reported the prophecy to Voldemort, who after have it heard, decided that the baby in question was Harry Potter, son to Lily and James Potter, born at the end of the 7th month July. Dumbledore, will think that this decision was guided by the similar nature of the two, both were half-bloods. As Voldemort will state later that night he will loose his powers, due to Lily’s protection over Harry, an ancient type of white magic he had not take into consideration.

When he lost his powers he became something less than a ghost, yet still alive (thanks to the Horcrux) and went to hide in a forest in Albania, presumably the same where years back he went to collect Ravenclaw’s diadem. Here he stayed concealed, eating small creatures possessing snakes, until Quirinius Quirrel in 1991 walked by, and he managed to possess him and to return nearby Hogwarts, where he killed several Unicorns to drink their bloods to stay alive, in the attempt to collect the Philosopher Stone created by Nicholas Flames to create the Immortality Elisir.

He used this time to try to kill Harry Potter in in a Quidditch Match, and to collect information about the Philosopher Stone he knew was concealed by Albus Dumbledore. He managed to fool Hagrid after some drinks at the Hog’s Head, giving him a Dragon Head and using it as excuse to talk about Fluffly. On 4 June 1992, Voldemort ordered Quirrell to send a fake letter to Albus Dumbledore, asking him to go to the Ministry of Magic. Voldemort moved forward with his goal, moving through the security barriers to the Mirror of Erised. Quirrell saw himself presenting the stone to his master, but could not figure out how to get it. Harry Potter though along with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, managed to discover his plans (even if they first thought Snape was behind it all), and stop him.

When he failed in this first attempt he returned to Albania, and tried to act through the Diary, he made sure that it arrived at Hogwarts through Ginny Weasley, who was given by Lucious Malfoy the original keeper of the Diary. She started to write in it, thinking it was a normal diary, confessing herself and placing in it her deepest and purest fear, for this reason she became easily manipulated. Voldemort forced her to open again the Chamber of Secret, freeing the Basilisk in the hope to continue his ‘plan’ of purging the school from all the Muggle borns.

Unfortunately for him, this time all the victims were lucky and only got pietrificated; the first was Mrs Purr, then Colin Canon, Justin Fletch-Flenchey, and last Hermione Granger. When the Diary ended in Harry’s hands he showed him what happed 50 years earlier, in the attempt to make his trust towards Hagrid fail. He used Ginny as bait to attract Harry in the Chamber, and here again he freed the Basilisk trying to kill him, but Fanny with the Sorting Hat that summoned the Gryffindor’s Sword came in Harry’s help who managed to kill the Basilisk and in the end stabbed the Diary killing, without knowing, the first Horcrux.

Wormatail found Voldemort in Albania and was one of the few Death Eaters who really tried to find him after his fall, along with Barty Crouch Jr. Wormail had previously encountered here Bertha Jorkins a Witch from the Ministry of Magic, who recognised him, he stunned her and brought her to Voldemort. He tortured her to obtain information, and even if someone had placed a powerful memory charm on her, he eventually managed to break it, even if this caused irreparable brain damage to her, so he eventually killed her. Wormail brought Voldemort back to the old Riddle’s Manor where he fed him to keep him in strength with Nagini’s milk, here along with B. C. Jr they decided a plan to kidnap Harry Potter to perform a ritual that would have brought back Voldemort in his full powers. Wormail for a moment suggested to it without Harry Potter, but Voldemort told him it was necessary it was Harry because this way he would have had in his blood Lily’s protection too, undoing it.

He wanted B. C. Jr to infiltrate Hogwarts School as the Auror Alastor Moody, and to bewitch the Goblet of Fire to think there were four school competing, the 4th school would only have one student: Harry Potter. This way it was sure that Harry would have been one of the three champion. B. C. Jr also had to bewitch the cup and make of it a key port to the Riddle’s Manor. On 24th June 1995 Cedric Diggory and Harry Potter arrived at the Riddle’s graveyard, here Wormtsail performed the ritual, resurrecting the Dark Lord with his full powers. He summoned all the Death Eaters, and then tried again to kill Harry. Dumbledore tried to warn the Ministry of Magic of Voldemort’s return, but he was not believed, and so Voldemort managed to travel to Azkaban and organise a mass escape of his faithful Death Eaters still there. Later on he started to search for something he didn’t have the last time, a weapon, a prophecy. Voldemort’s first attempt at securing the prophecy was to have Malfoy put Order member Sturgis Podmore under the Imperius Curse and send him to take the prophecy. However, Sturgis was unable to get into the Department of Mysteries.

His next attempt was to use the Imperius Curse on an Unspeakable named Broderick Bode. He was ordered to retrieve the prophecy, but was seriously injured in the process and was put into a permanent ward at St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. From this, Voldemort learned that the only people who could retrieve a prophecy are the people who are included in the prophecy. Voldemort could not risk going into the Ministry himself, so he used a telepathic link through Harry’s scar to cause him to go there instead. After his Death Eaters tried to catch the prophecy for him he arrived facing Dumbledore in an epic battle, and then possessed Harry who successfully won him. The Dementors left Azkaban to side with the Dark Lord, who could offer them more scope for their powers. As a result, there were many attacks by Voldemort’s army. Mass Muggle killings were rampant; what was claimed to be a hurricane to the Muggle world was in fact a rampage by the giants, whom Voldemort had drawn into allegiance. Voldemort himself duelled and killed Amelia Bones, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, who was described as having put up a good fight against him and as one of the greatest witches of the age. Dementor attacks were daily, the effect on the Muggles manifested in severe depression and grim weather. Voldemort attempted to blackmail Cornelius Fudge, and when he stood his ground, the Dark Lord initiated the destruction of the Brockdale Bridge, sending at least twelve cars into the water.

In July 1996 Voldemort assigned Draco the duty to be his spy inside Hogwarts, for revenge versus Lucious who had himself caught after the Ministry battle. Voldemort took over Malfoy Manor as his headquarters. During the summer of 1997, he captured the Hogwarts Professor of Muggle Studies, Charity Burbage, and killed her during a meeting with his Death Eaters before feeding her to Nagini. Voldemort also imprisoned and interrogated the kidnapped wandmaker, Garrick Ollivander, about why his wand could not duel against Harry’s. Ollivander revealed that their wands shared the same core, and would not work properly against each other. This came as a great relief to Voldemort, who worried that Harry had escaped from him in the graveyard by superior skill. Ollivander told Voldemort that he merely needed another’s wand, and so he took Lucius Malfoy’s. This served as a way to punish and demean the Malfoy family. At this point, he was nearly ready to conquer the Ministry, while insisting that Rufus Scrimgeour must be surrounded entirely before he made his next move.

On 27 July 1997, when Harry left 4 Privet Drive for the final time, Voldemort flew to the scene with his Death Eaters to fight the Order of the Phoenix. In the ensuing battle, Voldemort murdered Alastor Moody. When he attempted to attack Harry, Harry’s wand acted of its own accord, releasing golden fire at him and destroying Malfoy’s wand. Before Voldemort could react, Harry reached the protection of the home of Ted and Andromeda Tonks, and Voldemort was forced to retreat. Voldemort returned to his headquarters at Malfoy Manor and, accompanied by Peter Pettigrew, accused Ollivander of deliberately misleading him and tortured him with the Cruciatus Curse. Ollivander told him truthfully that never in wandlore has he ever heard of such a thing happening between two wands. Voldemort ordered Ollivander to tell him everything he knew about the legendary wand known as the Elder Wand.

Voldemort established a totalitarian police state, with Pius Thicknesse, under the Imperius Curse, serving as a puppet Minister for Magic and Death Eater Corban Yaxley as the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Voldemort placed a Taboo Curse on his name which enabled his Death Eaters to instantly locate anyone who spoke it out loud in the open. Voldemort chose not to publicly declare himself Minister of Magic in order to maintain an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. While searching for the Elder Wand Voldemort, interrogated several people, Gregorovitch in 1945 and Grindelwald in 1948 Nurmengard (Austria) prison. During this time Bellatrix summoned him at the Malfoy’s manor since she had caught Harry Potter, but before he could arrive he had already fled thanks to Dobby. Here Voldemort realised that Dumbledore who had defeated Grindelwald was the owner of the Elder Wand, so he traveled back to Hogwarts where he met with Snape, and irrupted into Dumbledore’s grave.

On May 1st 1998 Voldemort learnt from some Gringotts‘s Goblins that Harry Potter and his friends managed to break into Lestrange’s vault, disguised as Bellatrix herself and a far Romanian cousin; Voldemort killed in a rage attack all who informed him, furious about the Gringotts security system that had failed, and panicking about the idea that Harry Potter finally found out his secrets about Horcrux. He also wondered how he did it since he never told anyone, not even Bellatrix. Following these revelations, Voldemort went to check out the Gaunt Shack and the Cave, only to discover to his fury that the Horcruxes stored there were missing and thus were likely destroyed.

When the battle of Hogwarts began Voldemort was not present during the first part of the battle, since he reckoned there was no need for him, he stayed instead in the Shrieking Shack protecting Nagini (last Horcrux) inside a bubble charmed, and wondering why the Elder Wand was not responding to him completely. He came to the conclusion that the Elder Wand was responding to Snape as he had killed Dumbledore in the Astronomy tower, without realise that it was Draco in the first place to disarm Dumbledore. For this reason he summoned Snape and trapped his head inside the bubble with Nagini, and ordered her to kill him. Believing now he had the full power of the wand, Voldemort then called a one-hour armistice, requesting Harry in exchange for peace and no further deaths. Harry presented in the Dark Forest, but what Voldemort didn’t know is that Dumbledore had planned everything to make Harry a Master of Death, for he was the one who disarmed Draco after that he disarmed Dumbledore, so he was the real owner of the Elder Wand, more Dumbledore left him the Resurrection Stone, and he already possessed the Invisibilty Cloak. When Voldemort casted the Avada Kedavra on Harry he killed the last Horcrux without knowing.

He ordered Narcissa Malfoy to check on the body to find out if he was still alive, and even if he was Narcissa lied to the Dark Lord, for she wanted to head back to the castle and find her son. Voldemort degraded Harry’s body by performing the Cruciatus Curse on him, and then ordered Hagrid to held him and marched back with the Death Eaters to the castle. Voldemort claimed Harry had been killed while trying to escape. Neville, instead of surrendering, charged at Voldemort. After Neville refused to join him, Voldemort placed a Full Body-Bind Curse and the Sorting Hat on him and set the hat on fire to make an example of him, claiming that Slytherin would be the only Hogwarts House from then on. Neville was able to throw off the curse and pulled Gryffindor’s Sword from the Hat, and used it to decapitate Nagini, destroying the last remaining Horcrux. Voldemort tried to kill Neville for this, but Harry alive, cast a Shield Charm between them. During the second round of the Battle of Hogwarts, Voldemort tried to strike down everyone within his reach and his weakened army forced its way into the castle. In the Great Hall, his army was gradually cut down as Voldemort fought Slughorn, Shacklebolt, and Minerva McGonagall all at once and later blasted them away.

Here, Harry mentioned that by willingly sacrificing himself to Voldemort, he had protected everyone he cared about in Hogwarts with the same magic his mother created when she died for him. Harry tried to explain to Voldemort that he had magic Voldemort did not have, and a weapon more powerful than his, in addition to warning Voldemort of the fate that lay in store for him if he was unwilling to feel remorse for his actions. Goading him by using his birth name, Harry told him that Snape’s loyalty was with Dumbledore all along, that Dumbledore’s death was planned, and that Snape had not been the master of the Elder Wand; Draco had been. Voldemort fired a Killing Curse at Harry, while Harry countered with his “trademark” spell of Expelliarmus. The Elder Wand refused to kill its true master, and Voldemort’s spell rebounded off Harry’s, killing the Dark Lord once and for all.

Houses’s Ghosts

The Hogwarts’s ghosts are many, but the most famous are the ones that represent the four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.

Sir Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington went to Hogwarts when was his time, he was a wizard at the royal court of Henry VII, fell in love with Lady Grieve. After trying to magically fix her crooked teeth, the spell backfired, Lady Grieve grew tusks, and Nick was sentenced to death for his actions.

His sentence to death executed on 31st October 1492 by the way didn’t go as planned and that’s the reason why he’s completely beheaded.

Nick wrote a ballad about his own demise, entitled The Ballad of Nearly Headless Nick, each year he insists to take part at the Headless Hunt, headed by Sir Patrick Delaney-Podmore. Which by the way he could never take part to because his head isn’t completely beheaded.

Helena Ravenclaw also known as the Gram Lady is the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw, who was one of the four founder of Hogwarts.

Helena attended Hogwarts At some point after starting her education, Helena stole her mother’s diadem crashed by the weight of its power, and ran away to Albania, trying to get rid of it. She hid it in a hollowed tree in a forest in Albania, same forest which years later was frequented by Lord Voldemort, in fact it became an Horcrux, after he had found were it was hidden.

Her mother became fatally ill and hoping to see her daughter one last time, sent the Bloody Baron, a man who harboured an unrequited love for Helena, to find her. In a fit of rage, the Baron murdered her when she refused to return with him, before he committed suicide out of regret for what he had done. Helena has a single dark wound upon her chest, right were he stabbed her. The Bloody Baron and Helena returned to Hogwarts after as ghosts.

A jolly fellow who resembled a monk, who was sorted into Hufflepuff back in his day, and thought by Helga Hufflepuff herself.

At some point in his life, he joined the clergy as part of a mendicant religious order, meaning that he spent his life begging in the name of charity. A noble life for a noble man. Apparently, given his physically large appearance, he indulged in the pleasures of food and drink.

His magical ways roused suspicion, and he was eventually executed after the senior churchmen grew suspicious of his ability to cure the pox, and his penchant for pulling rabbits out of the Communion cup. The Fat Friar always resented the fact that he never became a cardinal.

The Bloody Baron it’s the only ghost at Hogwarts that can give Peeves orders.

A hot-tempered sort of fellow, who was responsible for the death of the Grey Lady, aka Helena Ravenclaw. In his living days, he was simply known as The Baron. It was only at the point of his death that the ‘bloody’ part of his name was added in. And for good reason.

Head over heels in love with Helena Ravenclaw, The Baron murdered her out of anger when Helena refused to return home with him. After stabbing her fatally, he was so remorseful, he used the same weapon to take his own life.

The Bloody Baron’s chains were an ‘act of penitence’ for what he did to Helena.

Hermione Granger

Hermione Jean Granger was born September 19th, 1979. She’s an English Muggle-born witch born to Mr and Mrs Granger. At the age of eleven, she learned about her magical nature and had been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hermione began attending Hogwarts in 1991 and was Sorted into Gryffindor House

Given her keen mind, some students – such as Terry Boot – wondered why Hermione was Sorted into Gryffindor rather than Ravenclaw. She admitted that the Sorting Hat did consider putting her in Ravenclaw. It is likely that the Sorting Hat ultimately put her in Gryffindor because Hermione chose to be in it, just like Harry chose to not be in Slytherin, in fact on the train she states that, “Gryffindor… sounds by far the best.” At last she proved her rightful place in Gryffindor with her steadfast bravery and loyalty to her friends, Hogwarts, and Dumbledore’s Army.

Hermione was a couple of weeks away from turning twelve when she boarded the Hogwarts Express in 1991, where she met Harry Potter and Ron Weasley while helping Neville Longbottom find his pet toad, Trevor.

Hermione soon proved to be the best in all her classes, eager to please the professors and to help others learn, albeit in a bossy way that made it difficult for her to make friends. Although she was a know-it-all, Hermione did often help Neville Longbottom, who struggled in most classes other than Herbology.

Hermione strictly followed all school rules and tried to prevent other students from breaking rules and getting into trouble. On one night, she followed Harry and Ron as they were leaving Gryffindor Tower to duel Draco Malfoy. They were chased by Argus Filch, acting on a tipoff by Malfoy, into the third-floor corridor — forbidden to students — where they came face-to-face with Fluffy, a three-headed dog belonging to Hagrid. Later on, she argued that her spying was to their benefit when she pointed out the dog had been standing on a trapdoor, which neither Harry nor Ron had noticed.

The friendship between Harry, Ron and Hermione was solidified when, on Hallowe’en in 1991, the three were forced to confront a mountain troll, which had been secretly let into the school by Professor Quirinus Quirrell, that had headed towards the girls bathroom, where Hermione was crying alone about what she overheard from Ron.

During the first Quidditch match, Hermione set Professor Snape’s robes on fire when she thought he was jinxing Harry’s broom. She thought that it was the “keeping your eyes fixed on the target” to make a spell. Actually Professor Snape was really trying to save Harry’s life with a counter curse, and Quirrell to kill him, in fact in the movie is possible to see him behind Snape, eye fixed on Harry. In the spring of 1992, Hagrid, now a friend of Hermione’s through Harry, managed to procure a dragon egg, the unlicensed possession of which was illegal.

When Hagrid finally managed to achieve the dream of his life and have a dragon, precisely a Norwegian Ridgeback, which he called Norbert (and later it will be found out that Norbert was actually Norberta), Harry, Ron, and Hermione managed to convince him to give it to Charlie, Ron’s elder brother in order to bring him in Romania where he would have been with its specie. They brought it on the Astronomy Tower for Charlie to catch it, on their way down they were caught by Argus Flitch who escorted them to Minerva Mc Gonagall, head of Gryffindor; She decided to punish them with the Dark Forest, along with Neville and Draco, they received detention and had 50 points deducted each from their respective houses.

After their run-in with Fluffy, Harry deduced that whatever Hagrid had retrieved from Gringotts was beneath the trapdoor. Hagrid let it slip that “… What’s under that trapdoor is strictly between Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel”. After much research turned up nothing, Harry was given a Dumbledore Chocolate Frog Card by Neville, which mentions Dumbledore’s work in Alchemy with Flamel. This led Hermione to look at a large book on Alchemy which she had borrowed from the library for “a bit of light reading“. After consulting the book, she realised that Fluffy was guarding the Philosopher’s Stone.

Fearing that Lord Voldemort would return if he stole the stone, and believing that Snape was acting as a double agent and attempting to steal it, Harry decided to steal it first. When he told Hermione that he could go on alone, she rebuffed him. After the trio passed Fluffy, it was Hermione who freed Ron from a patch of Devil’s Snare he had dropped into by conjuring Bluebell Flames. She later got herself and Harry through a challenge involving a Potion Riddle in order to obtain the right potion between many of them. Hermione used her logic to figure out the riddle and let Harry go forward without her, as there was only enough potion for one person.

Later, at the Farewell Feast in the Great Hall, Hermione, Harry, Ron, and Neville were all awarded extra House Points for bravery and heroism, allowing Gryffindor to win the House Cup. Hermione earned hers by correctly solving Professor Snape’s potion riddle.

Snape’s Potion Riddle

During the summer before their second year Hermione along with Ronald, wrote several letters to Harry all of which were intercepted by Dobby, making Harry think they forgot about him. She finally met with Harry in Diagon Alley where she was buying her school supplies with her Muggles parents. For this reason during her second year she starts to be victim of prejudice and hate from Draco Malfoy because of her blood status, who called her “filthy little mudblood”. To help Hermione feel better about the incident, Hagrid urged her not to think about it, pointing out that she was a talented witch, regardless of what bigoted people said about her Muggle-born status. Hermione had an obvious crush on Gilderoy Lockhart, who became that year’s Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. She scored full marks on the first quiz in his class, which consisted entirely of questions pertaining to Lockhart’s books, including a question regarding his favourite colour (lilac) that most of the class had answered incorrectly. In fact, she went as far as to doodle hearts on her DADA assignments, not knowing until later that he was, in reality, a self-obsessed fraud.

On Hallowe’en, 1992 Hermione attended Nearly Headless Nick’s Deathday Party with Harry and Ron, she introduced them to the ghost of Moaning Myrtle, wishing clearly to not have to talk to her, unfortunately Pevees overheard her, and called Myrtle telling her that Hermione, Harry and Ron where making fun of her. Heading back upstairs, she followed Harry in a detour, after he claimed to be hearing voices. They discovered the caretaker’s cat, Mrs Norris, petrified and the walls vandalised. Hermione began spending all her free time in the Hogwarts Library after she saw the writing on the corridor walls, which had said that the Chamber of Secrets had been re-opened. Despite hoping to read about the legend, she could not, as all the books had been previously checked out.

Hermione shocked everyone when she actually interrupted Professor Binns during a History of Magic class, asking about the Chamber of Secrets. This was the only known time when a student had asked the boring professor a question, and the class was interested in what he had to say. Professor Binns had stated that Salazar Slytherin had hidden a chamber which consisted of a horrible monster. It had been unleashed before once by an “Heir of Slytherin”, petrifying many Muggle-born and had also killed a Ravenclaw girl, named Myrtle Warren. Slytherin, a pure-blood loyalist, was against Muggle-born children being allowed to attend Hogwarts, but he was outnumbered by the other founders and Muggle-borns like Hermione were permitted as students. Slytherin fled the school, but rumours spread that he had built a hidden chamber; it was said that the school had been searched many times, but no such chamber had been found.

When Professor Dumbledore gave his go-ahead on the Duelling Club, Hermione coupled with Millicent Bulstrode a very tall, large girl from Slytherin. They started duelling with their wand but they were later seen on the ground one on another teasing each other’s hairs.

Later when Harry suggested that Draco Malfoy was the heir of Slytherin, it was Hermione who suggested to brew the Polyjuice Potions transforming into Tyger and Goyle to interrogate Malfoy. Since they needed the book from the restriction section the only way was to have a permit signed by a Professor, Hermione used her charm on Professor Lockhart to have it. She also stole supplies from Snape’s personal collection, risking very serious consequences if got caught, and started to brew the potion in the second floor bathroom, place of the ghost of Moaning Myrtle, who was not very happy of the thing.

Hermione was unable to join the ruse with Polyjuice Potion because the hair she obtained from Slytherin Millicent Bulstrode during their scuffle in the Duelling Club was actually the hair of Bulstrode’s cat. Hermione grew fur and a tail, and remained in the Hospital Wing for weeks as she did not transform back when the normal duration of effectiveness – one hour – was up. Months after her recovery from the Polyjuice complication, she came to the conclusion that the creature attacking students must be a Basilisk, and rushed to the library to conduct further research. On her way back from the library, she warned the first person she saw, Penelope Clearwater, and advised her to look around corners with a mirror before going anywhere. It saved both their lives, because they were both petrified when they spotted the basilisk’s eyes through the mirror instead of dying immediately as they would have done if they’d looked straight into its eyes.

Though she was petrified for the rest of the school year, Hermione was still able to assist Harry and Ron, for she had torn out the page on basilisks and scribbled on it “pipes, referencing the manner in which the creature had moved around the school undetected. Harry and Ron found it clenched in her hand when they were finally allowed to visit her in the Hospital Wing. Hermione was later cured with a Mandrake Restorative Draught created by Professor Sprout. Upon arriving at the Great Hall, she was immediately greeted by Nearly Headless Nick. After hugging Harry she exchanged an awkward greeting with Ron. Hermione was disappointed to learn that, as a special treat for the school, Professor Dumbledore cancelled the students’ end of year exams, but she was intensely proud that her friends had solved the mystery. That summer, Hermione went on holiday to France with her parents.

Just before she began the 1993-1994 school year, while visiting Diagon Alley with Harry and the Weasley family, Hermione met and adopted a ginger part-Kneazle cat named Crookshanks from the Magical Menagerie. However, her new bond with her cat caused friction with Ron and his pet rat Scabbers, as Crookshanks was always trying to catch the rat. Also at the beginning of this school year, Hermione obtained a Time-Turner from Professor McGonagall so she could double up on classes, though this was kept secret from everyone, even Harry and Ron.

When Harry received a Firebolt for Christmas with no note, Hermione reported it to Professor McGonagall, thinking it was sent by Sirius Black, whom everyone believed to be a dangerous murderer who was after Harry. His broom was taken away to be inspected, which caused a temporary rift between the two friends. There was further social strain for Hermione when Ron accused Crookshanks of eating Scabbers, who had disappeared. Hermione poured herself into defending Buckbeak, the hippogriff on trial before the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures for attacking Draco Malfoy during a Care of Magical Creatures class.

That year, Hermione was among the students who found Remus Lupin to be the best Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher they have ever had. She cleverly deduced that Professor Lupin was a werewolf, based on his Boggart taking the form of a full moon, the timing of his unexplained absences from class, and Professor Snape changing a lesson he took over to the subject of werewolves even though it wasn’t due on the syllabus for weeks. However, she didn’t expose Lupin, presumably because she believed he was a good teacher and didn’t agree with the prejudice many hold against werewolves. Divination, on the other hand, turned out to be a subject Hermione had no respect for or interest in, and soon dropped the subject after Professor Sybill Trelawney told her that she didn’t posses the Second Sight and because she believed that Divination was an imprecise term of magic.

On the day of Buckbeak’s execution, the trio ventured down to console Hagrid. While in his cabin, Hermione discovered Scabbers, Ron’s lost rat. Hagrid urged them to leave and they witnessed from a distance what they believed to be Buckbeak’s execution. Before they could return to their dormitory, Scabbers bit Ron and fled. While chasing after the rat, they were attacked by a black dog, which pulled Ron by the leg into a tunnel beneath the Whomping Willow, which then attacked them. Afterward, Hermione and Harry hurried after them eventually arriving in the Shrieking Shack, where Sirius Black, whose Animagus form was the black dog, confronted them. They were soon joined by Professor Lupin who was acting strangely, and Hermione told Harry and Ron of her belief that he was a werewolf, which he then confirmed. It was revealed that Sirius had been framed for the betrayal of James and Lily Potter, and that the true traitor was Peter Pettigrew, who had been hiding from the world as Ron’s pet rat. Hermione also cast Expelliarmus on Snape when he discovered them, knocking him out, at which she was horrified.

After Professor Lupin who didn’t take the Wolfsbane that night turned into a werewolf, and Sirius transformed into his animals to protect the others. When Harry and Hermione heard him moaning down by the lake they immediately went after him, only to found themselves a minute after surrounded by Dementors. Harry cast some Patronus to try to make them leave but there were too many, right when they were about to perform the kiss on them someone on the other side of the lake performed a very powerful Patronus, making them leave. Harry and Hermione awoke in the Hospital Wing after being rescued by Severus Snape, who conjured stretchers for Hermione, Harry and Sirius. After realising that Sirius’ soul was to be destroyed by the Dementor’s Kiss and receiving vague, though instructive and useful, instructions from Dumbledore, Hermione used her Time-Turner to return herself and Harry to a time earlier in the evening.

The two did, however, successfully use the opportunity to rescue Sirius and also Buckbeak, as it was hinted by Dumbledore that more than one innocent life could be spared that night. At the end of the year Hermione returned her Time-Turner, claiming it caused too much trouble and that she would drop a few subjects instead, which was a very big surprise to everyone.

Before her fourth year at Hogwarts, Hermione spent much of the summer holidays at the Burrow with Harry and Ron, sharing a room with Ginny Weasley. With the other Weasleys (excluding Molly Weasley), they attended the 1994 Quidditch World Cup in August. After the game, the communal campsite was set upon by Death Eaters. Hermione, Harry, and Ron fled into the woods and witnessed the casting of Morsmordre. Initially caught up in the chaos surrounding the effort to catch the caster, she took exception to the accusations levelled against Harry, and the many wizards’ treatment of the house-elf Winky who had also been at the scene.

Once at Hogwarts, Hermione began a crusade for the liberation of house-elves by beginning the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, or what she and the group called S.P.E.W, (or, as Ronald Weasley called it, “spew”) having been appalled by Bartemius Crouch’s abusive treatment of his house-elf Winky. This did not earn her any popularity, as most believed that house-elves enjoy their work; indeed, even the house-elves did not like her campaigning. Harry, Ron, and Neville only reluctantly joined S.P.E.W., mostly in order to prevent Hermione from nagging them about it. Hagrid as well as Fred and George Weasley refused to join on the grounds that it would upset the house-elves. Despite this, Fred did tell Hermione how to get into the Hogwarts kitchens. One morning she (along with Harry and Ron) visited the kitchens, where she spoke to Dobby and Winky. Dobby was pleased to see Harry and his friends and proceeded to tell them his struggles as a freed elf.

After the events surrounding Harry’s name coming out of the Goblet of Fire, Hermione was the only student who believed Harry’s innocence. In fact, she “accepted his story without question.” Even Ron was suspicious that Harry had cheated in order to gain more glory, creating a rift between the two for some time. Hermione helped Harry prepare for the first task of the Triwizard Tournament by helping him learn the Summoning Charm, Accio to summon his Firebolt.

Hermione unknowingly attracted the interest of Durmstrang Triwizard Champion and Bulgarian International Seeker, Viktor Krum. He was attracted to her due to her intelligence, unconventional beauty, and the manner in which she declined to hound him for autographs, unlike other girls. Krum began following Hermione to the library and other places around Hogwarts, including the library. This was something that Hermione found very irritating, as she couldn’t work when surrounded by giggling girls, who had taken it upon themselves to follow Krum throughout the castle and the school grounds. Krum even bizarrely asked Harry if it was all right for him to pursue Hermione. He eventually asked her to attend the Yule Ball with him, and she accepted, not telling anyone but Ginny Weasley that she was his date.

Thus, when the pair arrived, many were stunned and jealous. Hermione wore robes of a “floaty, periwinkle-blue material,” and her hair in an “elegant knot at the back of her head.” The attention to her appearance was unusual, and she received many positive remarks on it. Even Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson had nothing negative to say. Hermione commented that she had used Sleekeazy’s Hair Potion, but that it was too much work to use it every day. Upon seeing Hermione with Krum, Ron was overcome with jealousy. Hermione had hoped for Ron to ask her, but his invitation was insensitive and at the last minute due to him not being able to find anyone else. The two rowed about it in the common room after the ball, in which she revealed that he should have asked her properly and not “as a last resort”, but Ron misunderstood the point. After that, the two were seemingly more polite to each other, although more distant for a time and Ron continued to show dislike and distrust towards Krum.

Hermione was chosen as a “kidnap victim” for Krum during the Tournament’s Second Task, something that she subsequently endured teasing over. She was taken to the bottom of the Black Lake to await rescue from Krum, who donned a half-shark Transfiguration.

When Krum confessed his fears to Hermione about her relationship with Harry Potter, Rita Skeeter the journalist for the Daily Prophet was hidden nearby, and wrote a manful article about Hermione. She wrote a scathing article on “the devious Miss Granger”, claiming that she was toying with both Harry and Krum’s affections and that she had developed a taste for famous wizards. Skeeter even went so far to claim that Hermione was possibly brewing love potions. In the words of Ron, Skeeter was making Hermione out to be a “Scarlet Woman“, a phrase which made Hermione laugh. Although Hermione found the lies ridiculous, some people believed them and started sending Hermione hate mail, including one filled with Bubotuber Pus, and even Molly Weasley treated her coldly until Harry corrected her. Hermione vowed to get revenge on Skeeter for her libel, and wondered how she was getting her information, as several things Skeeter knew had only been discussed in private conversations. This led her to come to the realisation that Skeeter was an illegal unregistered Animagus, who took the form of a beetle to secretly witness confidential exchanges.

After Harry was rescued from Barty Crouch Jr, in the Hospital Wing while has telling his story Hermione spotted Rita “beetle” Skeeter on a window, trying to eavesdrops the story, she captured her in jar forbidding her to return her human form and so writing again for the Daily Prophet, this cost her her career, giving Hermione eventually her revenge.

While Harry was busy with the court hearing at the ministry she helped exterminate 12 Grimmauld Place, which served as headquarters for the Order. Before returning to Hogwarts, she and Ron learned that they had been appointed prefects for Gryffindor house, to the secret consternation of Harry, who couldn’t believe Ron had been chosen over him. She took her position very seriously. Once the school year began, Hermione resumed some of her activism on behalf of house-elves, though she was not as intense about S.P.E.W. as she had been the previous year. She learned how to knit socks and hats for the house-elves and hid them in Gryffindor Tower, disguising them with crumpled rubbish in an attempt to trick the house-elves into accidentally freeing themselves. The elves found this attempt insulting, and they stopped cleaning the Tower at all. Dobby was the only one who enjoyed the gifts, took everything Hermione had made, and cleaned the Tower by himself, a fact which Hermione didn’t know. Hermione was challenged in more ways than one that year when she met Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw girl, whose belief in many things without logical grounds baffled Hermione. However, the two became friends after accepting one another’s differences.

When they started the Order of the Phoenix, to actually learn how to defend themselves from the Dark Arts since Umbridge forbade them to use magic, one of the many spells Hermione learned was the Patronus Charm; hers took the corporeal form of an otter. Hermione became one of the few people brave enough to call Voldemort by his actual name. However, Hermione made the mistake of arranging the first meeting to take place in the Hog’s Head, as opposed to the Three Broomsticks, which Sirius, appearing in the Gryffindor Common Room fire, said would have made it a lot more harder for anyone to overhear. Willy Widdershins, who was in the Hog’s Head, went to Umbridge, who instituted Educational Decree Number Twenty-Four to forbid any type of students groups from being formed under her watchful eye.

When Mr. Weasley was hospitalised at St. Mungo’s after Nagini attack, Hermione along with Harry and Ron went to meet him. During their visit they wandered around the hospital ending up in the Janus Thickey Ward, which is for treatment of spell damage. Addresses unliftable jinxes, hexes, curses, incorrectly-applied charms. Here they found a very confused Lockhart he greeted them cheerfully and spent most of the time humming to himself absentmindedly. When addressed as Professor, he expressed surprise at the idea and remarked that he must have been hopeless, without any reluctance at all. Despite forgetting his desire for fame and attention, he continued to enjoy signing autographs and responding to fan letters, a trait that Harry noted had not changed. What by the way really shocked them was to find in the same ward Neville, meeting his parents who after being cursed several time with the Cruciatus Curse from Barty Crouch Jr and Bellatrix Lestrange went completely insane.

Hermione later gave Harry advice on Cho and girls in general. In an effort to combat the lies being told about Harry, and arranged for an interview during a Hogsmeade visit with Rita Skeeter to be printed in The Quibbler telling his side of the story, blackmailing Skeeter into penning it in a sympathetic tone. Despite being banned – or maybe because it was banned – it became the magazine’s best-selling issue of all time. It was Hermione’s brilliant spell-work that ensured the security of Dumbledore’s Army. She created coins enchanted with the Protean Charm, an advanced spell, as a method of communication, and jinxed the club’s attendance sheet to give any tattler a horrendous rash on the face, which would spell out “SNEAK” in painful boils. This is exactly what happened to Marietta Edgecombe, a reluctant member of the D.A., having been brought to the meetings by Cho. Shortly before Easter, Marietta finally caved under the pressure from her ministry mother who worked in the the Floo Network Office and betrayed the D.A. to Umbridge. When Harry learned that they could not find a counter-curse to heal her face, he swelled with pride at Hermione’s jinxing ability.

After Hagrid had been away all the year, he came back to Hogwarts with several bruises on his body, Hermione and others found out that he had brought back from his mission with madame Maxime his half-giant brother in law, Grawp. He had hidden him in the Forbidden Forest and was trying to teach him human ways, without much of a result. When Hagrid brought them to meet him, he picked up Hermione who told him forcefully to put him down, he later started to call her “Hermy”. Just after their class took their O.W.Ls, Harry had a vision of his godfather being tortured by Voldemort in the Department of Mysteries. Hermione was worried that it was a trap and convinced Harry to try to contact Sirius before doing anything rash. To that end, she accompanied Harry in an act of solidarity as he sneaked into Umbridge’s office to use the Floo Network, with the assistance of Ron, Ginny, and Luna Lovegood, but they were ultimately caught. When Umbridge threatened to use the Cruciatus Curse on Harry during questioning, Hermione interceded. She came up with a lie that she and her fellow D.A. members had been building a weapon for Dumbledore, thus stopping Umbridge’s sadistic interrogation and attempted torture of Harry. Hermione successfully lured Umbridge into the Forbidden Forest by saying that’s where the weapon was hidden, where Umbridge was carried away by a herd of centaurs. She had predicted that the centaurs would let her and Harry go, since they did not insult the centaurs and were young enough to be considered “foals”. However, the centaurs were already enraged by Umbridge and were further angered when Hermione admitted that she had hoped that they would drive Umbridge off, being insulted that they were thought of to do the bidding of humans. The centaurs were about to carry the two students off as well, but Grawp stumbled onto the scene and a fight broke out between the giant and the herd. This allowed Hermione and Harry to escape and meet up with Ron, Ginny, Luna, and Neville, who had escaped from the Inquisitorial Squad.

After a brief argument between Harry and Neville over whether or not the others were going to travel with Harry to London, an understanding was reached. The six students flew on Thestrals (which the majority, Hermione included, could not even see) to the Ministry of Magic to try to save Sirius from Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Hermione’s fear turned out to be justified, as Harry’s vision was a ruse planted in his brain by Voldemort designed to lure him to the Ministry to obtain a prophecy Voldemort sought. As soon as Harry did this, the six D.A. members were surrounded by Death Eaters, and a battle ensued. Hermione stunned Nott when he grabbed Harry, thus freeing him and causing Nott to be injured by the collapsing shelves of prophecies. She later stunned another Death Eater and Silenced Antonin Dolohov before he could alert the other Death Eaters to the group’s location. She was critically injured by the curse Dolohov subsequently struck her with, but made a full recovery.

Hermione achieved high academic prestige when she obtained ten O.W.L.s, in Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Care of Magical Creatures, Arithmancy, History of Magic, Herbology, Astronomy, Potions, and Ancient Runes. She received ‘Outstanding’ marks on each of them, except Defence Against the Dark Arts in which she received an ‘Exceeds Expectations,’ which she dwelt upon; Ron found it amusing that she actually seemed disappointed by this. By the time they arrived in Hogwarts, Hermione’s romantic feelings for Ron had become obvious. According to Harry the two seemed on their way to a romantic relationship. Hermione and Ron’s relationship suffered greatly in their sixth year, when Ron became envious of both Hermione and Harry, who were invited to be members of the Slug Club, a group of students favoured by Potions professor Horace Slughorn, while he was ignored. Hermione strongly disapproved of Harry using the textbook of the “Half-Blood Prince” to get ahead in Potions unfairly, though she did not turn him in and indirectly found a clue about the book owner.

She was particularly alarmed by the increasingly Dark nature of the magic in the book, such as the spell Sectumsempra. However, during an argument with his sister, Ginny humiliated Ron about his inexperience with the opposite gender and told him that Hermione had kissed Viktor Krum during their earlier romance. Ron subsequently began treating Hermione coldly, much to her bewilderment. She was upset when he and Lavender started flirting. When she found out about Ron’s relationship with Lavender, she conjured a flock of wild birds to attack Ron for his insensitivity regarding her feelings. He became even angrier with her when she believed that Harry slipped Ron Felix Felicis to assist in his Quidditch-playing abilities; despite having believed it initially himself, he accused her of having no faith in him when it was discovered that he had not been slipped the potion at all. After this, Hermione attended Slughorn’s Christmas party with Cormac McLaggen to get back at Ron, but it did not go well due to the former’s impoliteness. Afterwards, Ron (who was relieved that Hermione and McLaggen’s date did not go well) attempted to speak to Hermione, but she ignored him, still upset and angry over his previous treatment of her. This behaviour presisted for quite sometime.

The two reconciled after Ron was hospitalised due to consuming poisoned mead, an event that left Hermione shaken and frightened. After the incident she remained unusually quiet and subdued. Whilst sitting at Ron’s bedside, Ron subconsciously muttered Hermione’s name. After Ron and Lavander break up since she saw him coming down from the Gryffindor’s boys dormitory with Hermione, her and Ron were more comfortable together, and their relationship improved considerably, although a romantic relationship remained out of their reach. Hermione comforted Ron after he failed his Apparition test because he Splinched half an eyebrow, while he teased her about the instructor’s praise for her flawless performance. That year, Hermione also quickly mastered non-verbal magic, the first in her class to do so. Throughout the year, Hermione and Ron were both sceptical of Harry’s theory that Draco Malfoy had been branded with the Dark Mark and was up to something. Moreover, she was confident that Malfoy couldn’t have brought any Dark objects into Hogwarts without alerting Filch. These claims were heard by Draco himself, who used these details and Hermione’s previous plan of communication to accomplish his own.

When the Death Eaters irrupted in the school, Harry splitter the remained Felix Felicia between him and his friends, between them Hermione who fought in the battle and remained unscathed thanks to this. He told Hermione, Ron, and Ginny to drink it beforehand in case his worries proved true. When Harry told them about his desire to drop out of Hogwarts to hunt Horcruxes, which were the key to defeating Lord Voldemort. Despite his protests, Hermione and Ron promised to forgo their seventh year of school in order to assist Harry. Before leaving the school, Hermione was able to Summon books about Horcruxes so as to learn how to destroy the items. She found them in Dumbledore’s office, where the late headmaster had kept them after the subject had been banned at Hogwarts.

Hermione began planning for her journey with Harry and Ron immediately. Concerned for the safety of her family, she altered her parents’ memories to make them think they were Wendell and Monica Wilkins and sent them to hide in Australia, no longer aware of their original identities, the existence of their daughter, or anything she had told them about Harry. She also withdrew all of her savings at her building society account, in event of a need for Muggle money. Hermione then joined the Order of the Phoenix in the operation to remove Harry from 4 Privet Drive before his 17th birthday, taking Polyjuice Potion to become one of the “seven Potters”. Hermione flew on a Thestral with Kingsley Shacklebolt. The two fought off at least five Death Eaters, possibly killing one, injuring two, and were pursued by Lord Voldemort himself at one point. In time, they arrived safely at the Burrow, where Hermione was immensely relieved to see Harry alive and ran to him and hugged him tight, but she was greatly worried when Ron did not show up on time. When he landed, she ran and nuzzled him in relief. She was saddened by the news of Alastor Moody and Hedwig’s murders and disturbed by Harry’s vision of Garrick Ollivander being tortured.

Later on, the Minister for Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour, interrupted Harry’s birthday celebrations to execute Albus Dumbledore’s will and bequeath some of his belongings to the three friends. Hermione received The Tales of Beedle the Bard , a book of children’s stories written in runes. At Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour’s wedding on 1 August, 1997, Hermione wore a “floaty, lilac-coloured dress with matching high heels” and made her hair “sleek and shiny.” She shared a friendly exchange with Viktor Krum, to the frustration of Ron. She was happily surprised when Ron quickly asked her to dance, and when Krum asked a disguised Harry whether the two were together, Harry replied “Er… sort of.” The wedding was interrupted by Kingsley Shacklebolt’s Patronus who told the guests of the fall of the Ministry of Magic. Hermione was prepared to make a quick escape, immediately Disapparating herself, Harry, and Ron away from the danger. Hermione also showed great foresight and magical talent when she revealed a small beaded purse on which she had placed an Undetectable Extension Charm. Within it she had packed, amongst other things, clothing, a tent, healing supplies, Harry’s Invisibility Cloak, and several useful books. They arrived on the Muggle street, Tottenham Court Road, where Hermione suggested they enter a café, as a means to get out of the open. However, minutes later Hermione unknowingly triggered the Taboo curse that was placed on Voldemort’s name, and the trio were thus tracked down by Antonin Dolohov and Thorfinn Rowle. After a brief but violent skirmish, the Death Eaters were subdued, and Hermione modified their memories to throw them off the scent and to maintain Ron’s cover story that he was sick with spattergroit and bedridden at home. At Harry’s suggestion the three then made their way safely to 12 Grimmauld Place, as they could not hide anywhere within the wizarding world.

When they broke into the Ministry of Magic to retrieve the Horcrux which had been taken unknowingly by Umbridge, Hermione was forced to sit through the trials of Alderton and Mary Cattermole, innocent Muggle-borns, right alongside Umbridge and Death Eater Yaxley. Hermione tricked Umbridge into telling her about the locket, which she claimed was a Selwyn family heirloom. When Harry attacked Umbridge in a rage, their cover was blown, but she and Harry managed to free the Muggle-born prisoners and encouraged them to flee the country while Voldemort was in power. Hermione took the locket from Umbridge, replacing it with a copy using the Geminio spell. They met up with Ron again and fled the Ministry, but Yaxley grabbed onto Hermione’s arm while they were Disapparating. This meant that he was unwittingly brought inside the enchantment making Grimmauld Place undetectable, and forced Hermione to use a Revulsion Jinx to free herself from him, and then to take the trio away from Grimmauld Place.

Ron accused Hermione to have chosen Harry over him, clearly transported by the negative energy of the Horcrux which made him think that there was something between Harry and Hermione. Hermione and Harry soon decided to go to Godric’s Hollow, to see the graves of Harry’s parents and to speak to historian Bathilda Bagshot. They believed Bathilda might be holding onto Godric Gryffindor’s Sword for Harry, as they thought Dumbledore might have left it with her as an old family friend, knowing it was the only method the trio knew for destroying a Horcrux. Hermione comforted Harry in the graveyard when they found the Potters’ graves; she nuzzled her head in to the crook between his head and shoulders and conjured roses for the graves. On their way out of the graveyeard they came into contact with what appeared to be Bathilda. The pair then went to Bathilda’s house; whilst in the house they were separated. Harry was attacked by Nagini upstairs, who had been waiting for them in the guise of the old woman, whose corpse had been animated like an Inferius by Voldemort. Hermione rushed to Harry’s aid and proceeded to save his life, and the two of them barely escaped before Lord Voldemort himself arrived at the cabin in an attempt to capture Harry.

Hermione Apparated to the Forest of Dean, while Harry was overcome with pain and visions of Voldemort’s attack on his parents and him in 1981. She used a Severing Charm to remove the locket from Harry and healed the bite Nagini had given him with dittany. Harry’s wand had also been broken in the foray, most likely by the Blasting Curse Hermione cast at Nagini. Hermione was very upset a the thought that it was her curse that broke Harry’s wand. After Ron returned she screamed at him despite Harry trying to tell her that Ron just saved his life, and punched him until Harry cast a shield charm between them with Hermione’s wand. She was furious with Ron for days for his abandonment, but gradually warmed up to him again. When they reached Lovegood’s house to ask Xenophillius about the Deathly Allows symbol Hermione noticed in the living room an Erumpent Horn, explosive if touched and tried to make it clear to Mr Lovegood who kept disguising it as Snorkack horn to Hermione’s annoyance. When the Death Eaters arrived, Mr. Lovegood touched the Erumpent Horn by accident making it explode letting the three of them escape.

In the Spring of 1998 Harry accidentally triggered the Taboo Curse on them, which immediately brought on them the Snatchers and the Death Eater Fernir Greyback, who was eager to bite Hermione due to his cannibalistic attitude he had developed in the wild. They were brought to Malfoy Manor, and when Bellatrix Lestrange thought they had broken into her Vault in Grincotts she decided to interrogate Hermione alone, torturing her. She proceeded to isolate Hermione and then brutally torture her with the Cruciatus Curse repeatedly along with taking a dagger and cutting the word Mudblood into her arm as interrogation methods. When Dobby freed them they rushed upstairs from the cellar to free Hermione, they were forced to drop their wands when Bellatrix held a silver knife to Hermione’s throat. Bellatrix cut through some skin, leaving a thin cut on the front of Hermoine’s neck. When Dobby came back, he managed to free Hermione from Lestrange’s grasp, and was ready to apparate with them at Shell Cottage, which he did taking along with him the Silver Knife Bellatrix had thrown. Once here they learned from Griphook that Bellatrix was so scared about them getting into her vaults, and start to elaborate a plan to break into Grincotts. They managed to get the help of Griphook who accepted his role, only in exchange of the Sword of Gryffindor.

Once more, Hermione used Polyjuice Potion, containing Bellatrix’s hair. She was also forced to use Bellatrix’s wand, as her wand had been confiscated by Snatchers. She very much disliked this, as the wand in question had caused so much suffering, such as contributing to Sirius’ murder. She stated that the wand felt wrong and Harry speculated that it was because Hermione had not won the wand’s intelligence. It was determined that Hermione was “too polite” to really impersonate Bellatrix, a she did not treat those around her like scum. Despite this, the group managed to get into the vault, mainly because of Harry’s use of the Imperius Curse. After many harrowing challenges, and Griphook betraying them out of a belief that they would not have kept to their agreement. Hermione, Ron, and Harry escaped on the back of the half-blind dragon that was guarding the vault, with another Horcrux in their possession.

On May 2nd 1998 they returned to Hogwarts after Harry’s vision of the Horcrux to be in the castle, and to have something to do with Rowena Ravenclaw. ere reunited with their friends in the reformed Dumbledore’s Army, who declared their wish to fight the encroaching Death Eater army. Whilst Harry and Luna went to Ravenclaw Tower, Hermione and Ron retrieved basilisk fangs from the Chamber of Secrets in order to use them to destroy Horcruxes, and Hermione destroyed Hufflepuff’s Cup. Soon after reuniting with Harry, Ron expressed concern for the house-elves in the Hogwarts kitchens, prompting Hermione to kiss him for the very first time. Ron responded with great enthusiasm, but they quickly broke apart when Harry reminded them of their objective. The trio then entered the Room of Requirement in search for Rowena Ravenclaw’s Diadem, but were ambushed by Draco Malfoy, Gregory Goyle, and Vincent Crabbe. Hermione dodged a Killing Curse and managed to stun Goyle, and then she and Ron dragged him out of the room on a broomstick as it went up in flames due to Crabbe’s cursed Fiendfyre, which also destroyed the Horcrux. Harry rescued Draco, but Crabbe was killed by his creation.

Harry, Hermione and Ron then witnessed the death of Fred Weasley, which devastated them all. Despite their grief, the trio continued with the effort to track down Nagini, the last Horcrux (that they knew of). On their way, Hermione incapacitated two Death Eaters who were pursuing her, Harry and Ron, and blasted Fenrir Greyback away from an injured Lavender Brown, who still tragically died afterwards from her injuries. During the battle the three managed to reach the Shrieking Shack where they witnessed Snape being killed by Nagini on Voldemort’s order, because he thought the loyalty of the Elder Wand lay with him. During the break from the battle when Voldemort issued an ultimatum to Harry, Hermione comforted Ginny Weasley over Fred’s death. When Voldemort and his army approached with a supposedly dead Harry, Hermione screamed in horror and denial. The Battle of Hogwarts soon resumed, and Hermione fought Bellatrix Lestrange alongside Ginny and Luna, despite being hindered by using Bellatrix’s own wand against her. When Bellatrix nearly killed Ginny, Molly Weasley took over the fight and killed Bellatrix. Hermione witnessed Harry’s final defeat of Lord Voldemort, and she and Ron reached him first, overjoyed. Hermione survived the battle relatively unscathed, only suffering minor injuries and burns she received from entering the Lestranges’ Vault shortly before the battle.

At some point Hermione found her parents in Australia and restored their memories. In 1998, Hermione went back to Hogwarts to attain her N.E.W.T.s. She was the only one of the trio to do this, and by 2017 (nineteen years later) Hermione and Ron Weasley were married with two children: Rose and Hugo Granger-Weasley. Hermione is also the godmother of Harry and Ginny Potter’s eldest child, James Sirius. Hermione attained a high position in the Ministry of Magic, first through the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. There, she continued her work with S.P.E.W., working for the rights of underprivileged non-humans such as house-elves. She then went on to become Deputy Head  of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and assisted the Minister for Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt in eradicating the old laws biased in favour of pure-bloods. Hermione also eventually translated The Tales of Beedle the Bard from the original, which had been written in runes and which Albus Dumbledore bequeathed to her in his will in 1997. Her new translation was published in 2008 and included notes on each tale written by Dumbledore before his death; these notes were lent to Hermione by her former professor, Hogwarts headmistress Minerva McGonagall.

On 1 September, 2017, Hermione and Ron brought their children to King’s Cross Station to see Rose off for her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and met Harry, Ginny, and their three children there.

Rubeus Hagrid

Hagrid was born on 6 December 1928 to Mr Hagrid, a wizard, and Fridwulfa, a giantess, and grew up in the West Country of England, near the Forest of Dean, where he acquired his distinctive accent.

When Hagrid was about three, his mother returned to her Giant colony, leaving his father to raise him alone.

Hagrid’s father was thrilled when his son was accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where Hagrid began his education in 1940 in which he was Sorted into Gryffindor House. During his third year, Hagrid acquired one in what would be a long line of dangerous pets: a young Acromantula, which he named Aragog.

That same year, fifth-year student Tom Marvolo Riddle, who would go on to become Lord Voldemort, opened the Chamber of Secrets and unleashed a far more dangerous monster, which Riddle used to attack and petrify a number of Muggle-born students until he finally caused the death of a girl named Myrtle Warren. When the school was threatened with closing, a consequence highly undesired by Riddle, the boy found out about Aragog and turned Hagrid in as the culprit; he even further slandered Hagrid with accusations of raising werewolf cubs under his bed and running off into the Forbidden Forest to wrestle trolls. Hagrid protected Aragog and helped him flee to the Forbidden Forest; however, he was shortly thereafter expelled from Hogwarts, a fate that he was relieved that his father never knew of, having died during Hagrid’s second year.

Following his expulsion, the Ministry of Magic forbade Hagrid from practising magic and destroyed his wand. The then-Transfiguration teacher Albus Dumbledore, who was convinced that Hagrid was innocent, nonetheless convinced then-Headmaster, Armando Dippet, to give Hagrid the job of Gamekeeper and allow him to remain a resident of the school. Hagrid continued to do magic using his pink umbrella, which contained the broken fragments of his wand or perhaps even his entire wand intact, which may have been repaired by Albus Dumbledore with the Elder Wand.

Sometime after being expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Hagrid joined the original Order of the Phoenix in the 1970s. At the abrupt end of the First Wizarding War, Albus Dumbledore sent Hagrid to rescue a one-year-old Harry Potter from the ruins of his house in Godric’s Hollow, after Lord Voldemort murdered both James and Lily Potter in 1981. Using Sirius Black’s motorcycle, he brought Harry Potter to Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall, who were waiting to deliver the boy to his only remaining family — Lily’s Muggle elder sister, Petunia, and her husband Vernon Dursley. Sometime after being expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Hagrid joined the original Order of the Phoenix in the 1970s.

Early in the 1984–1985 school year, Hagrid rescued a student from Devil’s Snare. He also met Ben Copper. Around this time, he also got a puppy. Shortly before one of his birthdays, Hagrid lost one of his pets, and stopped being as cheerful as he usually was. Around this time, Dumbledore recruited Jacob’s sibling to help throw him a huge birthday party to cheer him up and show just how much everyone appreciated him. At some point before this, he saved a seventh year’s life, made a first year feel welcome at Hogwarts, and baked Rock Cakes to cheer up a third year.

After Harry was accepted to Hogwarts in 1991, Hagrid was given the task of finding Harry, as Harry’s uncle Vernon was doing everything in his power to prevent his nephew from receiving his Hogwarts acceptance letter. On Harry’s eleventh birthday, Hagrid found the Dursleys and Harry in an extremely isolated Hut-on-the-Rock, and accidentally broke the door down from the force of his knocking, much to Vernon and Petunia’s intense displeasure; Vernon threatened him with a gun, demanding that he leave, only for Hagrid to contemptuously seize the gun and twist it into a knot like it was rubber.

Not only did Hagrid show Harry some of the first real kindness he had ever known, bringing him a birthday cakeand generally caring about Harry’s comfort and happiness in a way the Dursleys would never have even considered, but he also revealed to Harry that he was a wizard. In retaliation, he attempted to turn Harry’s spoiled bully of a cousin, Dudley, into a pig, but only managed to give the boy a pig’s tail. However, Hagrid credited this to Dudley being so much like a pig already, that there was not much left to do. Once it was confirmed that Harry would be attending Hogwarts, after Hagrid decidedly ignored the Dursleys’ protests, he helped Harry find his bearings in the magical world by taking him to Diagon Alley, through the Leaky Cauldron, to buy his school necessities. While in Diagon Alley, Hagrid took Harry to Gringotts Wizarding Bank to withdraw some funds from the Potters’ vault, and to retrieve the Philosopher’s Stone from high-security Vault 713, to be transported to Hogwarts for even safer keeping. Hagrid also bought Hedwig, a snowy white owl, for Harry’s eleventh birthday. He comforted Harry about his upcoming attendance at Hogwarts school and provided him with a ticket detailing the date, time and place that he would need to catch the Hogwarts Express. However, Hagrid credited this to Dudley being so much like a pig already, that there was not much left to do.

In the spring of 1992, Hagrid met a hooded man (Quirinus Quirrell in disguise) at the Hog’s Head and was enticed to play a game of cards when the mysterious person bet a dragon egg. Assuming the man was a dragon dealer and fellow dangerous creature enthusiast, and under the influence of a fair amount of mead, Hagrid was convinced to divulge details about Fluffy, the three-headed dog Hagrid had lent to Dumbledore to help guard the Philosopher’s Stone. Hagrid secretly took care of the egg, until the night he hatched, Hagrid was initially blind to the chaos that the hatchling caused, but eventually, Harry, Ron, and Hermione convinced him to allow Norbert to be taken to a dragon sanctuary by friends of Ron’s brother, Charlie, who worked with dragons. After learning that Voldemort had attempted to steal the Stone using the information Hagrid gave him while drunk, Hagrid was distraught with guilt, but Harry assured Hagrid that he did not blame him. As an apology, Hagrid spent the time that Harry was unconscious sending off owls to some of his parents’ old school friends, assembling an album full of wizarding photos of Harry’s parents for him.In the spring of 1992, Hagrid met a hooded man (Quirinus Quirrell in disguise) at the Hog’s Head and was enticed to play a game of cards when the mysterious person bet a dragon egg. During the 1992–1993 school year, Hagrid showed public disdain for the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Gilderoy Lockhart, although he never did so for any other teachers. In 1993 Hagrid was sent to the wizarding prison, Azkaban, when the Chamber of Secrets was re-opened. It was assumed he was the one who reopened the Chamber because his expulsion from Hogwarts was for the same occurrence. Even with Dumbledore backing Hagrid, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge insisted on taking Hagrid anyway. So on the same night Dumbledore was asked to step down as Headmaster by the school governors, Hagrid was escorted to Azkaban. However, he was able to help Harry and Ron solve the mystery surrounding the Chamber, by advising them to “follow the spiders.”

Following the spiders led the boys to Aragog, the Acromantula believed to have attacked students during the 1942-1943 school year, and his family. Though Harry and Ron barely escaped the encounter with their lives, they managed to obtain some valuable information over the course of their conversation with Aragog: the monster within the Chamber had nothing to do with Hagrid, and the girl it had killed in the 1940s had died in a bathroom.

n the 1993-1994 school year, Hagrid became a professor of the Care of Magical Creatures. For his first lesson, Hagrid taught his third-year students about hippogriffs. After explaining the proper way to greet a hippogriff and choosing Harry to demonstrate, Draco Malfoy caused trouble by insulting the hippogriff Buckbeak, even though Hagrid had warned the class to treat the creatures with respect. Buckbeak attacked Draco, and the Ministry of Magic issued an order for Buckbeak’s execution after a hearing in which Lucius Malfoy’s pull at the Ministry was demonstrated, the incident also damaging Hagrid’s self-confidence; later lessons focused on tamer creatures like flobberworms. Buckbeak’s attack on Malfoy was later used during the Triwizard Tournament by Rita Skeeter to give Hagrid a very bad reputation. An appeal took place on 6 June 1994, but this was to no avail, and Buckbeak was to be executed at sunset that night. Before the execution, Harry, Ron, and Hermione visited Hagrid to console him, and they left just before the executioner arrived. Knowing Buckbeak’s position, and the exact timing of the start of the execution, Harry and Hermione were able to save Buckbeak by going back in time with Hermione’s Time-Turner, allowing them to rescue Buckbeak after the Ministry team sent to execute him had confirmed his location while Hagrid and Dumbledore were under observation, thus guaranteeing that neither would be blamed for Buckbeak’s rescue/escape. Delighted at the escape of his beloved pet, Hagrid spent the whole night celebrating with a large bottle of what may have been Firewhisky.n the 1993-1994 school year, Hagrid became a professor of the Care of Magical Creatures. During Harry’ s fourth year at Hogwarts, between the 1994 and 1995, Hogwarts hosted the Triwizard Tournament, which had as competitor Beauxbatons School whose headmistress was the giantess: Madame Maxime. Her and Hagrid were involved in a sort of romantic relationship being her the first giantess Hagrid will met, in fact he’ll be in charge of taking care of her horses the Abraxans, which only drank single malt whiskey and required particular magical cure. During the year Hagrid, being the teacher of Care of Magical Creatures, will start to show his bent towards particular creatures, letting Harry, Ron and Hermione’s class to bred the Blast-Ended Skrewts: newly hatched Skrewts looked like pale, slimy deformed shell-less lobsters or scorpions. They had legs sticking out at odd angles. They were about six inches long and smelled strongly of rotten fish. Sparks flew out of their rear ends every so often, which propelled them forward a few inches. The males had stingers and the females had suckers on their body to suck blood. The skrewts do not hibernate during winter. breeding the Skrewts at the beginning of September, and had several hundred. By the following June, he only had one, which was the one that was placed in the maze. Hagrid never discovered what they ate. They often killed each other off, so it is not surprising they died so quickly. It is unknown what became of the last Skrewt. He also brought several Nifflers to look after, which made Ron pretty happy because of their talent in finding coins.

Hagrid also offer Maxime to dance with him at the Yule Ball, where right after in the gardens he confided in her his life story, revealing to her that he is a half-giant, assuming her to be one as well because of her massive size. She was offended by the insinuations that she was part giant, and left him heartbroken. Rita Skeeter, in her Animagus beetle form, overheard Hagrid’s confession and reported it in the Daily Prophet. After receiving a fair amount of hate mail, Hagrid hid in the seclusion of his hut, while Professor Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank temporarily took over Care of Magical Creatures, and attempted to resign from his position as Professor. Dumbledore refused to accept Hagrid’s resignation, and he was eventually convinced to come back and teach by Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

When Albus Dumbledore learned of Voldemort’s rebirth, he sent Hagrid and Madame Maxime as envoys to the giant colonies of north-eastern Minsk, in the hopes of dissuading the giants from joining Lord Voldemort’s side in the coming war. Bearing gifts of eternal Gubraithian Fire and a goblin-made battle helmet, they eventually won over the Gurg, Karkus. However, the Death Eaters that Voldemort had sent on the same mission engineered an uprising. This uprising was led by the giant Golgomath, who beheaded Karkus and usurped his position. Golgomath then ordered his subordinates to attack Hagrid and Maxime and forced them to flee. Hagrid subsequently found that his mother had died years ago, and the existence of his half-brother Grawp, who was having a hard time within his colony as he was considerably smaller than most giants. Hagrid insisted on bringing Grawp back to Hogwarts due to this and presumably to prevent Grawp from being enslaved by Voldemort alongside the other giants. Grawp, however, was highly resistant to the idea and had a general tendency to be violent. Thus Hagrid and Grawp made the journey back to Scotland separately from Madam Maxime.

About halfway through the school year, Hagrid returned from his mission for Dumbledore with his half-brother, Grawp. In 1995, Dolores Umbridge was brought in as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, and later became the first and only Hogwarts High Inquisitor. Hagrid barely excused himself for his long absence from Umbridge’s tyrannical questioning and was surprised that he would be subjected to her inspection soon afterwards. Hagrid resumed his teaching post, beginning with a lesson about Thestrals. Despite their rather off-putting appearance and the inability of most of the class to see them, Hermione found these lessons far more useful than Hagrid’s typical classes. Regardless, early in 1996, Professor Umbridge put Hagrid on probation after supposedly finding his lessons unsatisfactory by her standards, despite Hermione’s every effort to make sure Hagrid’s curriculum was geared toward preparing students for the upcoming O.W.L.s. Umbridge’s harsh judgement was largely due to her distaste for “half-breeds,” and it was only the resistance she met from Headmaster Dumbledore that kept her from firing Hagrid altogether. When confronted by the trio about this revelation, Hagrid attempted to make light of it (nearly concussing Professor Vector with his fist as she went past) but was consistently jumpy and nervous at the prospect of being sacked. However, once Dumbledore was forced to leave in order to shield Harry from punishment for establishing Dumbledore’s Army, Hagrid feared that he would be driven out by the new Headmistress Umbridge. In preparation for this, he introduced Harry and Hermione to Grawp. Grawp took an immediate liking to Hermione, whom he called “Hermy,” and Hagrid asked the two of them, along with Ron, to take care of Grawp in his absence.

Upon Dumbledore’s departure, general chaos reigned within the school, as the students became determined to make Umbridge’s job as hard for her as possible; Lee Jordan even released a couple of nifflers into her office, for which she blamed Hagrid. Umbridge finally attempted to have Hagrid forcibly removed from the premises, and possibly arrested, when she brought several Ministry officials to his hut in the middle of the night so as not to cause a commotion with the students due to their earlier presence at Sybill Trelawney’s dismissal. Hagrid refused to go quietly and took on the officials, whose attempts to Stun him proved fruitless thanks to his giant blood. Fang came to his master’s aid until one of the wizards Stunned him, prompting Hagrid to lift the culprit bodily from the ground and throw the unfortunate soul ten feet away. While all of this was being witnessed by the trio’s Astronomy exam, Professor Minerva McGonagall came charging out of the castle demanding that Hagrid be left alone and, in a disgustingly cowardly move, was seriously injured after being hit by four simultaneous Stunning Spells without warning. Enraged at this dishonourable conduct and the injury of his friend and colleague, Hagrid knocked out two more of his assailants before fleeing with his unconscious dog. Aurors were sent to search for Hagrid, but he successfully evaded capture by hiding in the same cave that had previously proved a useful hiding place for Sirius Black. Once Dumbledore was reinstated as the Headmaster of Hogwarts and Umbridge permanently removed from the school, Hagrid was welcomed back to his post.

“And Odo the hero, they bore him back home

To the place that he’d known as a lad,

They laid him to rest with his hat inside out

And his wand snapped in two, which was sad.”

The following year with the N.E.W.T.s coming Harry, Ron and Hermione had to choose if carrying forward Hagrid’s classes or not: When Hagrid found out that none of his sixth-year Gryffindor students chose to continue past their O.W.L. level of Care of Magical Creatures, he initially misinterpreted this as a reflection of his students not liking him, as opposed to his questionable teaching. Hagrid eventually came to forgive Harry, Ron, and Hermione, understanding that their N.E.W.T. classes were difficult with massive work loads (and after Hermione confirmed that they could not have managed his classes with Time-Turners, as they had all been smashed during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries); his anger abated completely when he was overcome with worry about the failing health of Aragog. When Aragog died in 1997, he asked Harry, Ron and Hermione to help him bury the dead Acromantula’s body, though the heightened security around the castle with Voldemort’s confirmed return made that difficult. He asked for Harry’s help who under the effect of the Felix Felicis met Horace Slughorn, who was so happy to have the chance to take some of the Acromantula vemon for himself, later he and Hagrid got drunk over a Firewhisky bottle which led them to sing “Odo the Hero”, until Hagrid fell asleep, which allowed Harry to retrieve Slughorn’s memory about Tom Riddle.

During Albus Dumbledore funeral Hagrid was charge of carrying his body to his tomb, almost breaking down several times, and later Hagrid and Grawp were seen comforting one another. Hagrid was among the thirteen members of the Order of the Phoenix, led by Alastor Moody, that made up the Advance Guard. The Advance Guard was in charge of moving Harry Potter out of the Dursley home before his seventeenth birthday; Knowing that any Death Eaters watching out for them would assume the most skilled Auror would be moving with the real Harry, Alastor Moody took Mundungus Fletcher, while Hagrid was given the important task of protecting the real Harry in the side-car of Sirius Black’s motorcycle. Arthur Weasley had helped Hagrid make several adjustments to the bike, including adding a button that produced dragon’s fire, one that produced a net, and another that produced a solid wall, all of which materialised behind the bike by expanding out of its exhaust pipe. Hagrid was able to keep the Death Eaters at bay with the help of the modifications on his bike and Harry’s wand-work, but when Harry discovered one of the attacking Death Eaters was an imperiused Stanley Shunpike, he made the unusual move of using the Disarming Charm.

During the summer of 1997, Hagrid was present at Harry’s seventeenth birthday party. He gave him a mokeskin pouch which held objects retrievable only by the owner. Hagrid also attended Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour’s wedding, accidentally sitting in the wrong spot (and destroying a number of chairs) before finding the correct place to sit. Once back at Hogwarts, Hagrid continued his job as gatekeeper and Professor of Care of Magical Creatures. At the request of new headmaster, Severus Snape, Hagrid was placed in charge of students who had been assigned detention. Detention with Hagrid consisted of work in the Forbidden Forest, which was far safer than detention with Amycus and Alecto Carrow. Later that year, Hagrid narrowly escaped arrest after holding a Support Harry Potter party in his hut. He then went into hiding, presumably in the mountains, with his half-brother, Grawp. His escape was reported hours later on the radio programme Potterwatch.

Hagrid returned to Hogwarts with Grawp for the final battle. He rushed out onto the grounds to prevent injury being done to the Acromantula who had swarmed out of the Forbidden Forest and were climbing up the walls of the school. He was taken captive by the Death Eaters. When Harry appeared in the forest Hagrid shouted for him to run. After Harry’s apparent death at the Dark Lord’s hands, Hagrid was forced to carry Harry back to the castle. As the supposed “victory party” approached the castle, Hagrid rebuked the centaurs for refusing to involve themselves in the fight but was eventually reduced to sobs over the loss of Harry. When fighting resumed at the arrival of reinforcements, which included Buckbeak and Hagrid’s herd of tame Thestrals, as well as the centaurs, Hagrid threw Walden Macnair against the wall of the Great Hall, possibly recognising him as Buckbeak’s intended executioner. Hagrid was among the first to approach and congratulate Harry after Voldemort’s ultimate defeat. He was seen in the Great Hall among the other survivors of the battle.

Hagrid was still working at Hogwarts by 2017, at 89 years old, owing to the natural longevity of wizardkind, which also meant that he would likely have an extremely long life by Muggle standards. He invited Harry and Ginny’s youngest son, Albus, to his hut for tea, just as he had done during Harry’s first year. Hagrid never married, despite his reciprocated attraction to Madame Maxime, as she was ultimately too sophisticated for them to be a good match. In 2019, Hagrid led the members of the then recently established Statute of Secrecy Task Force seeking a career as Magizoologists, welcoming them by saying that he could sense they were going to sign in as he was able to see that they shared a curious spirit and ensuring them that, although being a Magizoologist was far from easy, they could succeed if they had the spirit to withstand the difficult trials and could recover. He first took them to the Diagon Alley to buy several robes and other essential pieces of equipment required to handle beasts and creatures for increased durability before proceeding to successfully teach the Stamina Charm, (despite his own being “less-than-perfect”), and allowed them to help him handle several live Fire Crabs. The primary takeaway they got from this, however, was a boost in their tolerance of pain.  He also gave those who chose to became an Auror an elective to raise their defenses against Beasts.

Dobby

Dobby was the Domestic Elf of the Malfoy’s Family, which treated him particularly bad, in fact they always remembered him to punish himself. After becoming aware of the plot of his master to re-open the Chamber of Secret, he found the courage to warn Harry Potter, and tried to prevent him to return to Hogwarts.

On September 1st 1992, Dobby closed the 9 3/4 platform barrier, seeing that harry managed to reach Hogwarts anyway by the Ford Angila he bewitched the Bludger during Harry’s Quidditch Match.

In the Hospital Wing, while Harry’s bones arm were growing back, Dobby gave him other hints, about the plot that was going on. After that Harry defeated the memory in Riddle’s Diary in the Chamber Of Secret, understanding that the Diary was Lucious Malfoy’s, he hide a sock between the pages, so when Malfoy ordered Dobby to carry the diary, he found the sock becoming so a free elf.

After this Dobby became super aware of the importance of his freedom, probably the only domestic Elf in history, he started working in the kitchen of Hogwarts, for one Galleon a week. While working there Hermione founded the S.P.E.W. an organisation aimed to support Elf’s rights, she started knitting hats which she hide all over the castle hoping that the Elf working in the kitchen would catch them up and be set free, but instead Dobby started collected them all, not to give her displeasure, but also sure that the other elf didn’t want to be set free.

During the Triwizard Tournament, in the second task, Dobby kept asking Harry if he could do anything to help him, so Harry charged him with the task to find him a way to breath underwater for an hour; Barty Crouch Jr. disguised as Alastor Moody tricked Dobby into stealing the Gillyweed from Snape’s personal pantry. (Even if this scene in the film is completely different, in fact is Neville who gives the Gillyweed to Harry.)

During the fifth year, while busy with the Dumbledore’s Army lessons, Harry started thinking that Malfoy was up to something, but couldn’t really focus on him, so he found another way to keep an eye on him, he asked Dobby and ordered Kreacher, being his formal master, to watch Draco for him, Dobby was so pleased and excited about the task Harry had given him, that didn’t sleep on his job.

During his work in the kitchen of Hogwarts had the occasion of becoming friend with Aberforth Dumbledore, who was the one that sent Dobby to Malfoy’s Manor to save Harry: there Dobby, being a magical creature and so not precluded to any magical force, was able to apparate inside the bewitched cellar, saving Luna, Mr. Ollivander, Griphook and Dean Thomas (also not present in the films) taking them to Shell Cottage. He then came back to help Harry, Ron and Hermione, announcing his return by have a chandelier fallen on Bellatrix, while disapparating with the three of them, Bellatrix threw a knife which managed to pass through, and hit Dobby in the stomach.

Harry, deeply grieving, decided to dig Dobby’s grave by hand without using magic. Ron Weasley and Dean Thomas joined Harry and laboured with him in digging the grave. They placed Dobby’s body in the grave and gave him socks, shoes, and a hat. Standing over Dobby, Luna Lovegood gently closed his eyes and thanked him for rescuing her and the others. Bill Weasley filled in the grave, while Harry used Draco’s former wand and carved “HERE LIES DOBBY, A FREE ELF” on a flat rock he placed on the burial mound.

Ronald Weasley

Ronald Bilius Weasley was born 1 March, 1980, to Arthur and Molly Weasley (née Prewett), at the height of the First Wizarding War. During this war his maternal uncles Fabian and Gideon Prewett, both members of the Order of the Phoenix, were murdered while fighting a group of four Death Eaters led by Antonin Dolohov. He has five older brothers — Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred and George — as well as his younger sister, Ginny, grew up in The Burrow on the outskirts of Ottery St Catchpole in Devon, England. Fred and George once transfigured Ron’s teddy bear into a giant spider, sparking his arachnophobia. On another occasion, the twins nearly got him to make an Unbreakable Vow, which finally made their father truly furious (and Fred would later state that his left buttock has “never been the same since” after the row that ensued). They also once got him to eat an Acid Pop which burnt a hole through his tongue.

Ron began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1991 at the customary age of eleven. He was Sorted into Gryffindor House, like every other Weasley. On his first trip on the Hogwarts Express, Ron met and became friends with the famous wizard Harry Potter. Harry let him share his carriage on the Hogwarts Express and purchased a large amount of wizarding snacks from the Hogwarts Express food trolley to share with him. Later on, Harry would stand up for Ron against Slytherin bully Draco Malfoy and Ron would elect to be his second for a midnight duel.

Ron and Harry first met Hermione Granger on the train but Ron did not particularly take to her. Ron, especially, was annoyed by what he saw as Hermione showing off her knowledge of magic, such as when she corrected him on the pronunciation of the incantation Wingardium Leviosa. Prior to the Hallowe’en feast, Ron said that she was a know-it-all and did not have any friends. Hermione overheard and went running to the girl’s bathroom in tears. That evening, during the Hallowe’en feast, it was announced that a mountain troll was loose in the school. Ron and Harry came to Hermione’s rescue after hearing that she was in trouble, and she, in return, lied to protect them from Professor McGonagall. The three then became friends.

During their first year, the three of them learnt that the Philosopher’s Stone was being hidden in Hogwarts and sought to protect it from being stolen by Severus Snape, whom the young wizards believed to be working for Lord Voldemort. Ron’s talent in Wizard’s Chess allowed them to pass one of the obstacles protecting the stone, which was a life-sized game. Ron sacrificed himself as a game piece so Harry could place the enemy king in checkmate, allowing Harry and Hermione to move on. Ron was awarded fifty House points by Albus Dumbledore for “the best played game of chess that Hogwarts has seen these many years,” allowing Gryffindor to win the House Cup for the first time in seven years.

Having not heard from Harry Potter during the whole summer of 1992, Ron, Fred and George Weasley, in a planned scheme to rescue him from Privet Drive. At the start of that year’s school term, Ron and Harry missed the Hogwarts Express due to the tricks of Dobby the house-elf and were forced to use the Ford Anglia to travel to Hogwarts. At the end of their journey, the car failed, causing the boys to crash-land into the Whomping Willow. They were nearly killed when the tree shook, and the car jettisoned them and took off into the Forbidden Forest, where it remained. Ron’s wand was damaged in the crash, causing him problems for the entire school year. It backfired when Ron attempted to curse Draco Malfoy in payback for calling Hermione a “Mudblood”. When they thought he was the heir of Slytherin, Hermione brewed the Polijuice Potion and Ron and Harry drank it up as Crabbe and Goyle.

Ron showed incredible bravery during the course of their investigation by venturing into the Forbidden Forest to an Acromantula den led by Aragog, in spite of his extreme fear of spiders. When he and Harry learned that Ginny (Ron’s younger sister) was dying in the Chamber of Secrets, they raced to save her, planning to give their information to Professor Gilderoy Lockhart. When the pair discovered that the professor was attempting to flee, they drew their wands on him and forced him to join them as they ventured into the Chamber of Secrets. Shortly after Ron, Harry, and Lockhart entered the Chamber, Lockhart attempted to wipe their memories in order to get out of the Chamber and take credit for their efforts in a bid for fame. Unfortunately for him, he used Ron’s damaged wand, and the spell backfired, causing permanent amnesia in Lockhart. Ron was left behind to tend to Lockhart, as Harry delved deeper into the Chamber, saving Ginny and defeating Salazar Slytherin’s basilisk. Ron was honoured with a Special Award for Services to the School, as well as earning two hundred House points for Gryffindor for his work concerning re-sealing the Chamber of Secrets.

The following summer Ron’s second year at Hogwarts, the Weasleyswon the Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw. Ron and his family used the money to travel to Egypt to visit Ron’s eldest brother, Bill. News of their lucky break made the Daily Prophet, and Ron sent that newspaper clipping and a Sneakoscope to Harry for his thirteenth birthday. They met on the last day of the summer, when Ron and his family visited Diagon Alley with Harry and Hermione and took up rooms in the Leaky Cauldron in preparation for catching the Hogwarts Express.

During their stay at the Leaky Cauldron, Ron shared a room with his brother Percy. Unfortunately, this led to a fight. Percy believed that Ron had taken his Head Boy badge, which had actually been stolen by Weasley twins Fred and George. Harry found the twins hiding, enchanting the badge to say “Big Head Boy“. Later, Ron was also accused of smudging a picture of Percy’s girlfriend, Penelope Clearwater with tea. Upon starting the term, the third years began taking new lessons. Ron and Harry had chosen Divination and Care of Magical Creatures, the pair quickly decided that Divination was not a class they really liked and that the professor, Sybill Trelawney, was a fraud. Ron’s first Care of Magical Creatures was a disaster. While Ron’s first lesson of Defence Against The Dark Arts with Remus Lupin made Ron immediately thought that he was a great teacher. On Hallowe’en, Ron and Hermione went on their first Hogsmeade trip, they visited every building in Hogsmeade and brought back loads of sweets from Honeydukes for Harry. Just before Christmas, Rubeus Hagrid received a complaint from the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures about Buckbeak the hippogriff. When he shared this incident with Ron, Harry, and Hermione, the trio promised to do everything in their power to help defend Buckbeak. On Christmas Harry received a Firebolt, and Ron implored Harry to try it; When Hermione’s cat Crookshanks attacked Scabbers, Ron’s rat, the two seriously argued menacing the trio’s friendship, a few weeks later they were making up when suddenly Scabber’s disappeared, Ron blaming Crookshanks fired up again the quarrel.

One night in Gryffindor’s tower Ron heard a ruffling in the curtains, he woke up suddenly to find Black standing over him with a knife. This incident made Ron famous among the other students, but he soon came back down when Hagrid scolded him and Harry about their treatment of Hermione. The very night of Buckbeack execution the trio went to Hagrid’s hut to keep him company, leaving just before the act, Hagrid returned Scabbers to Ron, which he was keeping in a jar. When they heard what sounded like the killing, Ron, Harry and Hermione set off for Hogwarts in a slight state of shock. Before they made it back there, Scabbers began to squirm in Ron’s hands and escaped. Not wanting to lose his rat again, Ron chased after Scabbers with Harry and Hermione behind him. He caught up to Scabbers, but not before they were in the shadow of the Whomping Willow tree. He looked up to see a large black dog bearing down upon him. The dog dived at Ron and gripping Ron’s arm in its mouth, it dragged him into the Whomping Willow. To try and stop the dog from pulling him further, Ron tied his feet around a tree branch, but the dog’s grip was so powerful his leg snapped. When the dog reached the Shrieking Shack, it let go of Ron and revealed itself to be Sirius Black. Sirius ambushed Harry and Hermione, disarming them when they entered the room where Ron was being held hostage. Ron’s leg was seriously injured that night, and Hermione and Harry had to help him out of the Shrieking Shack. When it was decided that Pettigrew should be turned over to the Dementors, Lupin splinted Ron’s leg, and the assembled company left for Hogwarts. Along the way, the full moon broke out, and Lupin began to transform into a werewolf. In the skirmish, Pettigrew stole Lupin’s wand, stunned Ron, and escaped into the moonlight. Hours later in the Hospital Wing where he was recovering both from his broken leg and Pettigrew’s attack, Ron was told that Harry and Hermione had managed to save Sirius and Buckbeak from the Dementor’s Kiss with Hermione’s time turner. As a replacement for his lost pet, Sirius sent Ron a tiny owl, which Ginny immediately named Pigwidgeon because she thought the name was “sweet“; annoyed and disgusted at this, Ron tried to choose another name, but it was too late, so he settled for using the nickname “Pig”.

In the summer of 1994, Ron invited Harry and Hermione to accompany the Weasleys to the Quidditch World Cup, which was being held in Britain for the first time in decades. Before the match beginning Ron bought a Victor Krum’s walking figure, since he was cheering for the Bulgarian Team, a few minutes later he saw an Omniocular. A device which allows you to replay the action of Quidditch and see them in rallenty. Ron went crazy about it, and was desperate because he had already spent all his money on Krum’s figure, Harry decided to buy it as a gift to him. That night, while the Irish supporters were still awake celebrating their victory, trouble began. Some Death Eaters who had managed to avoid imprisonment in Azkaban, attacked the camp where Ron and his friends and family were staying. Running off into the woods, Ron, Hermione, and Harry quickly lost Fred, George and Ginny, but they did find Draco Malfoy. Malfoy meanly suggested that Hermione, being a Muggle-Born, could easily be targeted by the Death Eaters, causing Ron to insist that she and Harry join him in going deeper into the woods. Soon they reached a patch of woods giving off a silver glow, where the trio found a few Veela witches surrounded by admirers. Ron was entranced and stated that he would create a broom that would fly to space. They had reached an empty clearing when they heard an unknown person cast the Dark Mark. On 1 September, Ron and his friends departed for Hogwarts aboard the Hogwarts Express. That evening at the Welcoming Feast, Dumbledore announced that Hogwarts would host the Triwizard Tournament. Ron found himself caught up in dreams of being a Triwizard Champion, but he was snapped back to reality by his fourth year classes. In Care of Magical Creatures, Hagrid had his students tending to Blast-Ended Skrewts, and in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Ron was impressed by the new professor, “Mad-Eye” Moody, when he taught the class about the three Unforgivable Curses. Having discussed the possibility of somehow outsmarting the Goblet of Fire and the Age Line that Dumbledore had cast around it, Ron was surprised to find that Harry’s name had come out of the Goblet of Fire. Jealous of the fact that Harry always seemed to receive all the attention, Ron refused to accept that Harry didn’t put his name in the cup. He even went as far as to accuse Harry of cheating his way into the tournament. After the argument, he and Harry stopped talking to each other, and Ron began hanging out with other Gryffindors like Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan.

When Ron heard Harry talking to someone one night, he went down to see who it was since Harry didn’t tell him about such a thing. Ron was deeply offended when Harry accused him of trying to spy on him and when he told him who he talked to was none of his business to the point where he tried to get Harry to tell him who he was talking to by accusing him of practising for an interview. This only made Harry throw one of Draco Malfoy’s badges at him and tell him he could wear that during the First Task. This made Ron realise that he had lost Harry’s trust and respect to the point where Harry no longer saw him as a friend. Ron and Harry did not talk to each other again until after the First Task of the Triwizard tournament. Seeing just how much danger was involved in the First Task, Ron realised Harry would never have put his own name into the Goblet of Fire, and the two became best friends once again. Soon after the first task, Professor McGonagall told Ron and the other Gryffindor boys about the traditional Yule Ball, held during the Triwizard Tournament. While all students above fourth year scampered around trying to find dates, Ron and Harry found it hard to ask girls to the ball. Struck by the beauty and charm of Fleur Delacour, the Triwizard Champion from Beauxbatons Academy and a part-Veela witch, Ron asked her to attend the ball with him, but fled in embarrassment without waiting for an answer. He also offended Hermione by not asking her, and then by suggesting that she did not have a date and thus could accompany him. He ended up going with with Padma Patil, who was really embarrassed about Ron’s “traditional” prom robes.

During the Yule Ball, Ron and Harry also overheard Hagrid telling the Beaubaxtons Headmistress Olympe Maxime that he was half-giant. On 24 February, Ron was put into an enchanted sleep and tied up at the bottom of the Black Lake, to be “rescued” by Harry as part of the second task of the Triwizard Tournament. When he found out that Harry had stayed behind to save Fleur’s sister Gabrielle Delacour as well, Ron jokingly took him to task, but was impressed when Harry was given extra points for “outstanding moral fibre“. Fleur thanked Ron and Harry in turn for helping save Gabrielle, kissing both of them on the cheek. Ron gained much attention from the other students due to his being taken hostage for the task. He proceeded to exaggerate the events of what happened until Hermione called him on it. Early in the spring, Ron joined Harry and Hermione in visiting Sirius Black, who had taken to hiding in Hogsmeade. Seeing Harry returning with Cedric’s dead body, Ron was eager wanted to question Harry about Diggory, but he was told off by Molly Weasley who, along with his brother Bill Weasley, had come to watch Harry. Ron was furious with the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, when he refused to believe Harry and Dumbledore, and calmed Molly when she was shocked by Black’s appearance in the room. Ron did not go against Harry’s story when he finally heard it, sticking by his best friend.

After Voldemort rose to power and the Second Wizarding War began, Dumbledore reformed the Order of the Phoenix. Ron and Hermione who were staying at the Orden headquarter felt sorry that they were ordered by Dumbledore to not tell Harry anything about it. Ron, Harry and Hermione stayed at Grimmauld Place throughout August. In late August, Ron and Hermione were made a Gryffindor prefect, for which Molly and Arthur gave Ron a new Cleansweep Eleven. Bound by their prefect duties, Ron and Hermione were separated from Harry on the Hogwarts Express and could only join Harry in his compartment for the last part of the journey. When they arrived, Ron expressed concern that Hagrid was not at the welcoming feast and was suspicious of the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Dolores Umbridge. Late in September, one evening when Harry returned from detention with Professor Umbridge, Ron, somewhat reluctantly, joined Hermione in convincing that Harry teach his fellow students defence against the dark arts. Late in October, students had their first visit to Hogsmeade. There, Harry, Ron, and Hermione met with several students who were interested in learning proper defence. Ron defended Harry against Zacharias Smithwhen questions rose, and was among the first to sign the recruitment parchment. On the way home from Hogsmeade, Ron became upset when he learned from Hermione that his sister Ginny was dating Ravenclaw student Michael Corner. The following morning, Ron awoke to find that suddenly, by order of Professor Umbridge, all student groups had been disbanded including the House Quidditch teams, but he was mollified when Harry said they would continue with their secret group, which Ginny named “Dumbledore’s Army” during their first meeting, mocking the Ministry of Magic’s fears of student uprisings.

In the weeks following the first Dumbledore’s Army meeting, Quidditch season arrived. Ron had nervous issues prior to the first match against Slytherin. They had made badges saying “Weasley is our king,” which Harry decided could not mean anything good. In an attempt to distract Ron from the Slytherins, Hermione kissed him on the cheek for luck, effectively stunning Ron. Ron’s play was abysmal, and it was not helped by the Slytherins’ new song also entitled, “Weasley is Our King“. Following the game Ron wanted to resign, but learned he could not, as Harry Potter, Fred, and George Weasley had been banned from Quidditch for life. Frequent Dumbledore’s Army meetings, O.W.L. homework, and his prefect duties took up most of Ron’s time as the holidays approached. Following the last meeting of the term, Ron was amazed at Harry’s “romantic” tale, earning him a stern talking to from Hermione who suggested that Ron had “the emotional range of a teaspoon.” That night, Harry witnessed Ron’s father, Arthur Weasley, being attacked by Lord Voldemort’s snake, Nagini. When Harry’s story was confirmed by Dumbledore and McGonagall, Ron, his siblings, and Harry were immediately sent to the Order’s Headquarters, so they could look in on their father’s convalescence, and there they spent the Christmas holidays, joined by Hermione the next day.

During their first trip to St Mungo’s Hospital, Ron overheard “Mad Eye” Moody thinking that Harry had been possessed by Voldemort. Ron was worried when Harry became quiet after the visit and wanted to talk to Harry about it. He got his chance after Hermione arrived and convinced Harry to come downstairs. Ron, Hermione, and Ginny told Harry how worried they had been and managed to confess that he was not being possessed. They had an enjoyable holiday, but on their second visit to the hospital, Ron learned the truth about the torture of Neville Longbottom’s parents. Throughout the term, Ron continued to learn defensive and offensive magic from Harry. He also stayed on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, despite his very poor performances. Due to Quidditch, he missed the Valentine’s Day visit to Hogsmeade. Though, he was impressed that Harry went public and hopeful that people might believe Harry when The Quibbler came out. Soon after Trelawney’s sacking, Marietta Edgecombe, a friend of Ravenclaw Student Cho Chang’s who only reluctantly joined Dumbledore’s Army, told Umbridge about the group, but was unable to give up any pertinent information once she saw a jinx activate on her face. Ron was able to escape when Umbridge, raided the Dumbledore’s Army headquarters, but he was incensed when Professor Dumbledore was forced out of the school. He was also wary when his brothers Fred and George Weasley said they were going to do their part for Professor Dumbledore. After Fred and George’s secret escape from Hogwarts, Ron was certain that his mother would blame him, but he was saved from this fate when Harry revealed that it was he who financed Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.

Ron played in the final Quidditch match of the season, though Harry and Hermione did not watch, as Hagrid finally revealed the source of his injuries to them. Ron played better, and Gryffindor won the Quidditch Cup. Ron was unable to settle to his studies the following day, but Harry and Hermione brought him down with Hagrid’s secret injuries. Soon, their Ordinary Wizarding Level exams were upon them. Ron managed to do very well, but he made a few mistakes. He joined the fight at the Ministry to retrieve the prophecy, which ended up in Harry’s Godfather, Sirius Black, death.

During the summer following the battle, Ron learned he had received seven O.W.L.s, only failing Divination and History of Magic. Ron learned that his brother Bill was engaged to Fleur Delacour. While this annoyed his mother, sister, and later Hermione, Ron took to defending Fleur and if she surprised him, he would still take on that dumbstruck look. Ron would suffer much personal turmoil in his sixth year. Harry was named Gryffindor team captain. Ron was nervous about Quidditch try-outs, but beat out Cormac McLaggen in saves, partly because Hermione cast a Confundus Charm on McLaggen in retaliation for him insulting Ron and Ginny. He was also envious when Harry and Hermione were invited to the Slug Club, while the new Potions professor Horace Slughorn ignored him, and when attention was paid to him, Slughorn usually got his name wrong. During this time, Ron showed brief flashes of jealousy about Harry and Hermione’s closeness. He would take exception whenever Hermione complimented Harry on something Ron thought was equally due to him. Ron was temporarily mollified about this when Hermione asked if he would like to attend the club’s Christmas party with her, and he agreed, but thought it was only as friends. Ron was also worried over his sister’s increasing involvement with boys, and after stumbling upon her kissing Dean Thomas, he blew up at her. In retaliation, Ginny belittled him for his complete inexperience with the opposite gender, declaring that Harry and Hermione had also snogged people. The siblings treated each other coldly afterwards, and Ron was so bothered by this — and by the revelation that Hermione had kissed Viktor Krum almost two years earlier — that he began to perform poorly in Quidditch. He also began to treat Hermione with a cold indifference, which confused her. He even offered to resign from the team. To boost his confidence, Harry pretended to pour the Felix Felicis into Ron’s pumpkin juice at breakfast. Harry even allowed Hermione to see the vial, so she would object to the cheating. This convinced Ron that he had an edge in the game, which caused him to play excellently. However, when after the match Harry revealed it was a trick, Ron rounded on Hermione and accused her of having no faith in his abilities.

Shortly thereafter, Ron began his exhibitionist relationship with Lavender Brown. Hermione, incredibly angry and hurt by Ron’s vindictive actions, conjured a flock of canaries to attack him; the birds scratched Ron badly, and he and Hermione stopped talking to each other. Hermione attended the Slug Club’s Christmas party, she had originally wanted to attend with Ron but went with his hated rival, Cormac McLaggen, while Ron snogged Lavender in public and made fun of Hermione’s behaviour in Transfiguration class, reducing her to tears. By Christmas break, however, Ron was becoming disenchanted with his relationship with Lavender, who had become increasingly possessive, annoyed him with the nickname “Won-Won,” and gave him a gift of a necklace that said “My Sweetheart“. Hermione did not come to the Burrow for the holidays, as she usually did, and Ron made an attempt to speak to her after returning to school, but she ignored him. On 1 March 1997, Ron ate chocolate that he believed to be one of the presents for his 17th birthday, but was in fact a gift from Romilda Vane to Harry spiked with a love potion. He became so obsessed with her that Harry had to bring him to Horace Slughorn’s office to brew him an antidote. After the antidote, Professor Slughorn offered them a glass of mead to celebrate, Ron was the first to drink and collapsed to the ground. Luckily harry acted fast placing a Bezoar in his mouth saving his life, Ron stood several days in the Hospital Wing where he received the company of Ginny and Hermione.

On Monday 10 March Ron and Harry, who suffered a cracked skull from a mishit Bludger during the match, were able to leave the hospital wing, although Ron did not tell Lavender this. His subsequent avoidance of Lavender and simultaneous spending more time with Hermione made Lavender suspicious; after she spotted him and Hermione leaving the boys’ dormitories, seemingly alone (Harry was with them, but under his Cloak of Invisibility), Lavender ended the relationship, much to Ron’s relief. On the night of the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, Ron took Felix Felicis on Harry’s instructions, along with Hermione and Ginny. Those three were joined by Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood, whom Hermione had summoned using the D.A. coins. While Hermione and Luna monitored Professor Snape’s office, Ron and the others watched the Room of Requirement. Ron fought in the battle and survived without any major injuries, thanks to the Felix Felicis. He was shaken by his oldest brother Bill’s scarring at the hands of the vicious werewolf Fenrir Greyback. Shortly afterwards, Ron attended the funeral of Albus Dumbledore, where he comforted a sobbing Hermione. He and Hermione informed Harry of their intention to accompany him on a quest to locate and destroy the Horcruxes of Lord Voldemort, forgoing their seventh year of school.

In late July, he participated in the Order’s operation to remove Harry from his childhood home, taking Polyjuice Potion to be one of the “seven Potters.” He flew with Nymphadora Tonks; they were pursued by at least three Death Eaters during the battle, including Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange. Ron stunned one of the Death Eaters in the face while flying. Ron reassured Hermione by nuzzling her back slightly upon landing as she had been quite worried about him and he was saddened at the death of “Mad-Eye” Moody. He was also saddened by the death of Harry’s beloved pet owl Hedwig, over which he comforted Harry. Ron became concerned when Harry had a vision of an imprisoned Garrick Ollivander being brutally tortured by Lord Voldemort in the cellar at Malfoy Manor. Once Ron, Harry, and Hermione were all convened at the Burrow, they made plans to leave, much to the displeasure of Ron’s worried mother. During the preparations for Bill’s wedding, Mrs Weasley set Ron, Harry, and Hermione to separate tasks to prevent them from planning. On Harry’s seventeenth birthday, Ron gave Harry a copy of Twelve Fail-Safe Ways to Charm Witches. Later that evening, Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour visited the Burrow to dispense the contents of Dumbledore’s will. He questioned the trio, and Ron let slip that they had no idea why Dumbledore would bequeath anything to him. Ron received Dumbledore’s Deluminator.

The trio attended the wedding for which, all summer, they had been forced to prepare the Burrow; the marrying couple was Ron’s older brother Bill to Fleur Delacour on 1 August. Ron was irked and jealous that Viktor Krum was a guest, especially since he immediately complimented Hermione, who Ron quickly asked to dance shortly afterwards. When Viktor Krum asked who he thought was Barny Weasley (though it was really Harry in disguise) about the pair, he was somewhat disappointed to learn that they were “sort of” together, but not officially a couple. The celebrations were interrupted with the news that the Ministry of Magic had fallen to Voldemort, and Hermione Disapparated herself, Ron, and Harry away from the danger to Tottenham Court Road. This was the starting point to the trio’s adventure and search for the Horcruxes they needed to bring down Lord Voldemort. After they arrived at Luchino café they were ambushed by Death Eaters Antonin Dolohov and Thorfinn Rowle there and a skirmish broke out. After stunning and wiping the memories of the Death Eaters, the trio took refuge in Harry’s inherited house 12 Grimmauld Place left to him by Sirius Black. There the trio learned the true location of the Horcrux by Kreacher, and received the visit of Remus Lupin, who told them that he and Nymphadora were going to have a baby. The project a plan to enter the ministry and steal the Horcrux, they used the Polijuice Potion left from Mad-Eye Moody, and became three members of the Ministry, Albert Runcorn and Mafalda Hopkirk. Ron, disguised as Reginald Cattermole. Ron soon had to separate from the group since the Death Eater Yaxley, asked Cattermole to stop the rain in his office. The three of them re-united in the Department of Mysteries where Hermione and Harry managed to grab the Horcrux, and immediately after followed by Dementors left for the Hall. Ron splinted him-self escaping through Disappartion, and they had to leave Grimmuld Place as hide out.

Afterward, weeks passed with no further progress. This, as well as the locket’s negative influence, caused great tension and animosity amongst the group of friends. When he wore the locket, Ron was sullen and suspicious, lashing out at his friends and continuously complaining. Ron abruptly abandoned his friends one evening after getting into a fight with Harry over the additional task of locating Godric Gryffindor’s Sword in order to destroy the locket. He accused Harry of having no plan and of not being very concerned about Ginny, whom they had learned was punished back at Hogwarts. When Ron asked if Hermione was going with him and she told him that she was staying, he accused her of choosing Harry over him, and left, despite Hermione screaming and crying for him to come back. As soon as he was outside the influence of the Horcrux, Ron came to his senses and tried to return. However, he had a run-in with Snatchers first, who interrogated him. Ron claimed to be Stan Shunpike, and then took an opportunity to escape. He apparated numerous times to try to find Harry and Hermione, splinching fingernails off at one point, but could not find them. He then went to stay with Bill and Fleur at their new home, Shell Cottage. Soon after Christmas, Ron used the Deluminator Dumbledore bequeathed him to locate his friends. Ron made his way to the Forest of Dean, where he arrived just in time to rescue Harry from drowning in a semi-frozen pond. When Ron attempted to use Godric Gryffindor’s Sword to destroy the locket, horrible incorporeal images of Harry and Hermione came forth which cruelly mocked Ron about his many insecurities, including his fears that Hermione would choose Harry over him. This brought Ron to the point of tears. However, Ron successfully stabbed the Horcrux with Godric Gryffindor’s Sword. Afterwards, Harry took Ron aside to assuage his fears about Harry and Hermione. Saving Harry’s life earned him Harry’s forgiveness, but Hermione — who was unaware of what the Horcrux had done — was still furious with him for his abandonment for some time and attacked him mercilessly upon sight until Harry cast a Shield Charm to stop her.

The trio learned of the existence of the Deathly Hallows from Xenophilius Lovegood. Xenophilius, worried for his daughter Luna, who was being held hostage by Death Eaters, tried to capture the trio. They narrowly escaped, Hermione engineering it in a way that preserved Ron’s alibi of being sick at home. During the Easter holidays of 1998, the trio was captured by a gang of Snatchers led by Fenrir Greyback after Harry accidentally broke the Taboo curse on Voldemort’s name. Hermione hit Harry in the face with a Stinging Hex in order to disguise him. Harry, Hermione, and Ron quickly lied and gave fake names; Harry being Vernon Dudley, Hermione being Penelope Clearwater, and Ron being Stan Shunpike. Ron was beaten (his mouth extremely bloody) and was then forced to use another name, Barny Weasley. This was due to the Snatchers already knowing who Stan Shunpike was. The Snatchers also found Godric Gryffindor’s sword in their tent, there was no explaining that. They were then brought to Malfoy Manor, where Lucius Malfoy attempted to get his son to identify Harry. Draco said that he did not know whether it was Harry or not, but immediately recognised Ron and Hermione. The trio then meet with Bellatrix Lestrange, whom separated them. Ron tried to persuade Bellatrix to take him for questioning instead of Hermione. She responded that she would interrogate him next if Hermione died during questioning, as “blood-traitor was next to mud-blood in her book“. Ron was forced into the dungeon with Harry, Dean Thomas, and the goblin Griphook. In the dungeon they found Luna and Mr Ollivander, whom were captured in 1996.

The group was saved by Dobby, who was sent by Aberforth Dumbledore. He freed Harry and Ron to run upstairs to save Hermione, who managed to lie under torture about where they had obtained Gryffindor’s Sword. Ron disarmed Bellatrix after she avoided a chandelier dropped by Dobby, and pulled Hermione from the wreckage of the fallen chandelier, Disapparating them both to Bill and Fleur’s home Shell Cottage. They stayed there with Luna, Fleur, Bill, Mr Ollivander, and Griphook. He attended the burial of Dobby, where he humbly gave him his shoes and socks. At the cottage Hermione recovered and she, Ron, and Harry planned to break into Gringotts Wizarding Bank in order to take Hufflepuff’s cup, and a Horcrux, within the Lestrange Vault. Griphook the goblin agreed to help them in exchange for Gryffindor’s Sword. Ron, knowing that the sword was needed to destroy Horcruxes was reluctant to let Harry part with it. Harry suggested that they delay handing the sword over until the Horcruxes were destroyed. As the planning went forward, Ron along with Harry and Hermione found Griphook to be increasingly distasteful. On the morning of 1 May, 1998, they broke into Gringotts with Hermione disguised as Bellatrix Lestrange, Ron as a fictional foreign wizard named “Dragomir Despard,” and Harry under his Invisibility Cloak with Griphook. As they were headed down into the vaults, the Gringotts defences (the Thief’s Downfall in particular) were set against them, and Ron’s disguise melted away. Once in the vault, it was discovered that all the treasure had Geminio and Flagrante curses put on them. Although they were betrayed by Griphook, the trio obtained Helga Hufflepuff’s cup and escaped the wizarding bank on the back of a dragon.

After getting off the dragon escaping from the wizarding bank, Ron saw Harry having one of his visions. He was told that Lord Voldemort finally knew that they were hunting Horcruxes and that the final one was at Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione apparated under the Invisibility cloak to Hogsmeade looking for a way into Hogwarts. They were soon cornered by Death Eaters set to watch the town. Ron drew his wand ready to fight them, but Harry suggested that advantage lay in stealth and that attacking would give away their position. Once the Death Eaters ordered Dementors to search the town for the trio, Harry was forced to perform the Patronus Charm. After Harry’s Patronus chased away the Dementors the trio found refuge in the Hog’s Head. A heated discussion with the proprietor followed, who turned out to be Aberforth Dumbledore. The discussion revolved around Harry’s mission and the seeming defeat of the Order of the Phoenix. After this they were lead into Hogwarts by a badly beaten Neville Longbottom, whom in Harry’s absence became the defcto leader of the D.A. They arrived in the Room of Requirement and found that the reformed Dumbledore’s Army was hiding out there. Harry whom had developed trust issues, did not like the idea of allowing the other DA members to help. Ron persuaded Harry to let the others do so anyway. While Harry searched for Ravenclaw‘s diadem, Ron and Hermione entered the Chamber of Secrets to retrieve basilisk fangs. Ron mimicked the Parseltongue he had heard Harry use to open Salazar Slytherin‘s locket and succeeded in gaining entrance to the Chamber. Hermione used the fangs to destroy the Horcrux of Hufflepuff‘s cup, and they then reunited with Harry. When Ron expressed desire to evacuate the house-elves from the Kitchens, Hermione, who had always been concerned for creatures so often mistreated by society, was so touched that she ran, nuzzled and kissed him, much to Ron’s delight.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione entered the Room of Requirement to find Ravenclaw’s diadem, but were ambushed by Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle. When Crabbe unleashed a cursed fire, the trio escaped by means of broomsticks; Harry saved Draco, and Ron and Hermione saved Goyle. They then witnessed the death of Ron’s brother Fred in combat, which devastated Ron, who wanted revenge. Hermione managed to calm him by reminding him that they would have to fight on their way to finding Nagini, Voldemort’s final Horcrux. The trio made their way to the Shrieking Shack, and witnessed the snake kill Severus Snape on Voldemort’s orders. While dying, Severus Snape’s memories leaked out of him, which Harry collected into a glass phial to latter view in the headmaster’s office. Following his alleged death, the battle resumed, and Ron and Neville Longbottom brought Fenrir Greyback down together. Ron witnessed Harry defeat Lord Voldemort once and for all, and survived the battle without serious injury.

Ron never received a seventh year of education at Hogwarts. Sometime between 1998 and 2006, Ron married Hermione, and later the couple had two children: Rose and Hugo. Ron was also the godfather and uncle of Harry and Ginny’s oldest son. At some point, Ron, Harry, and Hermione were all featured on Chocolate Frog Cards for their accomplishments, which Ron considered his “finest hour“.

Instead of completing his education, he moved on to become an Auror (along with Harry) at the Ministry of Magic. Their work in the Ministry revolutionised the Auror department, and along with Hermione the trio helped “make a new world” for the wizarding community. Two years after he started at the Auror Office, he left to help his brother George at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley. His decision to do so was questioned by Rita Skeeter, who thought that Ron was tired of standing in Harry’s shadow, and wrote in her gossip column that Ron was likely mentally ill (this must, of course, be taken with more than a small pinch of salt due to Rita’s habit of writing scathing lies in articles), having said himself that the Horcrux hunt had “took its toll” on him.

Ron, Hermione and their children Rose and Hugo all attended the final of the 427th Quidditch World Cup in the Patagonian Desert in July 2014, alongside Harry, Ginny, James, Albus, Teddy Lupin, Neville, Hannah, Luna, Rolf, Bill, Fleur, Victoire, and potentially others. Ron also became close with Harry’s children, one of whom, James, was his godson. Lily Luna Potter and Ron’s son were close in age and good friends, as were Ron’s daughter and Albus Severus Potter.

In August of 2017, Ron, having settled into a rotund middle age, obtained a Muggle driving licence. He also admitted putting a Confundus Charm on the Muggle driving inspector because he had forgotten to use his wing mirror properly, excusing this mistake because casting a Supersensory Charm would be more effective. That year, he and Hermione sent their daughter off for her first year at Hogwarts, and Ron encouraged Rose to be Sorted into Gryffindor House and to beat Scorpius Malfoy in marks. He hugged Hugo gently.

Ginny Weasley

Ginevra Molly Weasley was born on August 11th to Molly and Arthur Weasley, she grew up during the first Wizarding War, during which her maternal uncles, Gideon and Fabian, were killed by a group of Death Eater led by Dolohov. Ginny was the first daughter of the Weasley family, and had six elder brothers: Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, and Ron. They grew up at the Burrow, on the outskirts of Ottery St Catchpole in Devon, England. Despite her brothers were really keen to play Quidditch she was never allowed to play with them, but when she was six she started breaking into the family broom shed and train by herself, she used each of their broom in turns and was never caught, the thing was found out only when Hermione mentioned it to Fred and George eight years later.

On 1 September, 1991, she accompanied her mother to King’s Cross Station to see off her brothers as they departed for Hogwarts. Despite being too young to attend the school, she still begged her mother to let her go with them. While saying goodbye to her brothers, she found out that Harry Potter was on the train, and tried to get her mother to let her go on the train to see him. As the train pulled out, she began to cry, despite her brothers promising to send her loads of owls and a Hogwarts toilet seat. She ran along the platform after the train, half-laughing and half-crying, then stopped to wave them off.[

When the Hogwarts Express returned to King’s Cross in June 1992, Ginny was with her mother to welcome her brothers back and was again excited to see Harry, pointing him out to her mother as he came through the barrier between platforms nine and ten.

Ginny attended Hogwarts on September 1st 1992, that summer she travelled to Diagon Alley with her family to buy her school supplies, and her excitement at finally going to Hogwarts was tempered by the fact that, due to the Weasleys’ financial situation, she would have to make do with a lot of second-hand products, including her robes and books. In Flourish and Blotts, however, she became the owner of a brand new set of Gilderoy Lockhart’s collected works. Harry, having been given them by Lockhart as a publicity stunt, gave them to her since he could afford a set of his own and was embarrassed by what Lockhart had done. With this act of kindness and recognition, Ginny finally spoke in front of Harry, standing up to Draco Malfoy when he started to insult him. Draco was with his father, Lucious, and the elder Malfoy took the opportunity to insult the Weasley family for associating with the Muggle parents of Muggle-born witch Hermione Granger and — in his eyes — being a disgrace to wizards. During his tirade, he managed to slip Tom Riddle’s Diary into Ginny’s battered second-hand copy of A Beginner’s Guide to Transfiguration.

She was sorted into Gryffindor House, like all the Weasleys before her. She discovered Tom Riddle’s diary in amongst her school things and began writing in it. To her amazement, the diary wrote back, and she started to confide in Tom Riddle’s memory, writing about how her brothers teased her, how she had to come to school with second-hand robes and books, and how she thought that Harry would never like her. She poured her heart out to the diary, and told Tom’s memory all about Harry’s story.

At least once, Ginny went down toward Rubeus Hagrid’s hut, hoping to see Harry there. In confiding in the diary her deepest fears and secrets Ginny became increasingly vulnerable to Tom Riddle’s memory, which began to pour a little of his own soul back into her and slowly started to influence her. By the start of October, the signs of the influence began to show on Ginny. She started to look peaky, but a spate of colds in the school covered up the true nature of her condition. Her brother Percy forced her to take Pepperup Potion to get her over it. By 31 October, the memory of Tom Riddle was able to take full control of Ginny and used her to open the Chamber of Secrets, releasing its resident monster. Which then petrified Argus Filch’s cat, Mrs Norris and put all the other students in great danger.

Following the attack, Ginny seemed upset over Mrs Norris, and her brothers put it down to the fact that she was a cat-lover. She opened the Chamber of Secrets another two times, resulting in the petrification of Colin Creevey and Justin Finch-Fletchley. She became more visibly upset, and again, her brothers put it down to other causes — she sat next to Colin in Charms, and that she was worried that Ron might be expelled if he got in trouble. Fred and George attempted to cheer her up, but went about it the wrong way by leaping out at her from behind statues covered in fur or boils.

Ginny confided in the diary, however, that she thought she was going mad. She woke up with rooster feathers on her robes, and could not remember where she had been at Hallowe’en and when Colin was attacked. She started to think that she was attacking everyone. The missing pieces of her memory were starting to take a serious toll on her psyche and it was effecting her health beyond the point of looking peaky.

Along with her brothers, Ginny remained at Hogwarts over Christmas, instead of going to visit her brother Bill in Egypt with her parents. She had started to become suspicious of the diary, and several weeks after Christmas attempted to get rid of it by throwing it down a toilet in Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom. Once free of the diary, Ginny sent Harry an anonymous Singing Valentine on 14 February, 1993. He received it in front of her, as she was going into a Charms lesson, when he was accosted by the dwarf assigned to deliver it. During the delivery, Harry’s bag was torn and the contents were dropped onto the floor. To Ginny’s horror, she saw that Harry now had the diary. To make matters worse, Draco Malfoy implied that she had sent Harry the Singing Valentine in front of everyone.

Ginny was fearful that Harry would discover her secrets, such as her feelings for him and how she thought he would never return her affections. In addition to the fact that she might be responsible for the attacks, so she waited until the boys’ dormitory was empty. After the dormitory was empty for the day she then ransacked Harry’s belongings to recover the diary. Retrieving it, Ginny was once more overcome by the memory of Tom Riddle and opened the Chamber again, this time petrifying Hermione Granger and Penelope Clearwater. It is unknown how she felt about this, but it could be deduced that she most likely felt particularity upset about Hermione being petrified as she was a close friend of her brother and of her crush.

Ginny tried to tell Harry and Ron what was going on, but could not get the words out, and she was interrupted by Percy. The memory of Tom Riddle was furious, as he had been planning on taking on Harry Potter himself after learning his story. Realising that Harry would come to save Ginny, he made her write a farewell on a corridor wall, then enter the Chamber of Secrets to die. She had poured so much of her life into the diary that she could not fight Tom’s control of her, and the last thing she remembered as she lay down on the floor of the Chamber was Tom coming out of the diary. The memory of Tom Riddle had fed off her, gaining enough strength to become corporeal and regain the appearance of his 16 year old self. As Tom grew stronger, the life in Ginny faded away until she slipped into an unconscious state.

Ginny awoke in the Chamber to find that Harry had saved her, and destroyed Riddle’s diary by piercing it with a basilisk fang, and Ginny’s vitality was restored to her. Tearful and scared, Ginny revealed what had happened to Harry and was sure she was going to be expelled from school. After leaving the Chamber with the aid of the phoenix, Fawkes, Ginny was reunited with her parents in McGonagall’s office. Despite her fears, Dumbledore did not place the blame on her, saying that older and wiser wizards had been duped by Lord Voldemort, and he sent her to the hospital wing to recover from her ordeal with a mug of hot chocolate.

Following this traumatic experience, Ginny returned to normal and was happy and relaxed for the rest of the school term. At the end of the school year, she travelled back to King’s Cross with her brothers, Harry, and Hermione on the Hogwarts Express, playing Exploding Snap. She also mentioned that at some point she had walked in on Percy and Penelope Clearwater kissing in a classroom during the year, and begged her brothers not to tease him about it.

In the summer right before her second year at Hogwarts, Ginny travelled to Egypt in the summer of 1993 with the rest of her family to visit her brother Bill after her father won seven hundred Galleons in the annual Daily ProphetGrand Prize Galleon Draw. She visited various tombs, but her mother would not allow her to go in the last one because of all the mutant skeletons.

On the Hogwarts Express, Ginny was separated from her brothers until the train stopped because of the Dementors. In the dark, she found her way into the compartment containing Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Professor Lupin. When the Dementors came to the compartment, Ginny was one of the worst affected by them as she had horrible experiences with Tom Riddle’s diary last year. She went very pale and shook like mad, eventually sobbing and having to be comforted by Hermione.

Later in the year, after Harry fell from his broomstick in a Quidditch match during a storm, Ginny visited him in the Hospital Wing. She had made him a get well card that sang shrilly when opened and presented it to him while blushing furiously.

n the summer of 1994, Ginny spent a lot of time with Hermione Granger, who was staying at the Burrow before and after the Quidditch World Cup. They shared Ginny’s room and tent at the World Cup and solidified their growing friendship. Aware of her interest in Harry Potter, Hermione advised Ginny to relax around him more and show him what she was really like, since she could barely talk if he was in the same room as her. She even suggested that Ginny start going out with other available boys to mark time until Harry starts taking more notice and returns her feelings and becomes available. Although she was still shy around Harry, who was also staying at the Burrow, Ginny took Hermione’s advice and was much more relaxed and spent time with him, Ron, and Hermione.

She attended the Quidditch World Cup final on 25 August with the majority of her family, as well as Harry and Hermione. During the match she was shown to being wearing a green shamrock hat in support of the Irish. Ginny was shaken by the appearance of Death Eaters in the aftermath of the Irish victory.

Ginny returned to Hogwarts, which hosted the Triwizard Tournament that year, she rooted for Harry the unexpected fourth champion and maintained a good relationship with Hermione. Ginny was the only one that Hermione confided in when Viktor Krum asked her to the Yule Ball. As a third year, Ginny was not allowed to attend the ball unless asked by an older student. Neville Longbottom asked her to go after Hermione turned him down, having already accepted Viktor, and Ginny accepted since she was friends with him. However, she still harboured feelings for Harry and was displeased to hear that he had asked Cho Chang to the ball. She was even more despondent when Ron suggested that Harry take her to the ball since he did not have a date. Struggling with the idea that she could have gone with Harry, she nevertheless remained loyal to her agreement with Neville and attended the ball with him. At the ball on Christmas, she met Michael Corner and started dating him at the end of the year.

After the revelation of Lord Voldemort, Ginny stayed at 12 Grimmuld Place becoming an active part of the Order of Phoenix, even if due to her age she was the only one never allowed to the meetings. When Harry was acquitted at his hearing on 12 August for using magic in front of a Muggle while under age, she was extremely pleased and sang and danced with Fred and George shouting “He got off, he got off, he got off!“.

Ginny returned to Hogwarts on 1 September, 1995 with her brothers. During the train ride on the Hogwarts Express, Ginny introduced Harry and Neville to Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw in her year. With the arrival of new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge and a theory-based course, Harry, Ron, and Hermione decided to form a study group to teach practical defence spells. Ginny joined the group, bringing her boyfriend Michael with her, and several other Ravenclaws. They all met in the Hog’s Head where Ginny first demonstrated her sense of humour by mimicking Umbridge’s cough. During the first official meeting of the group, she came up with the name for the group — Dumbledore’s Army, which to her was a better name with the same initials of the name Harry’s then-girlfriend Cho Chang came up with.

That very year Harry, along with Fred and George, received a lifelong Quidditch ban from Umbridge for attacking Draco Malfoy after their game against Slytherin (although their bans were lifted right after Umbridge was removed from Hogwarts). Ginny tried out for the team and became the new Seeker. Although she admitted that Harry was a better Seeker than her, and that she preferred playing as a Chaser and scoring goals.

Following the attack by Nagini to her father, she was sent instantly at 12 Grimmuld Place along with her brothers that very night, and the following day in St. Mungo’s Hospital where she saw Harry, who hugged immediately, overwhelmed by her gratitude towards him to have saved his father. After this, she started noticing that Harry was not talking to anyone anymore, but he was starting to spend more and more time alone, when she found out that he was believing that he has been possessed by Lord Voldemort and attacked her father, she went furious and confronted him railing on him, demanding him why he didn’t confront someone who had actually been possessed by Lord Voldemort. Ginny spent Christmas at 12 Grimmauld Place and visited her father again on Christmas Day. During this visit, along with Ron and Hermione, she found out the truth about Neville Longbottom’s parents, and how they had been tortured into insanity by Barty Crouch Jr, Bellatrix, Rodolphus, and Rabastan Lestrange using the Cruciatus Curse at the end of the First Wizarding War.

Returning to Hogwarts after Christmas, Ginny played her first game for the Gryffindor House team against Hufflepuff. Despite losing the match, Ginny captured the Golden Snitch, although she downplayed the achievement by saying it was not a fast Snitch and that the opposing Seeker, Summerby, had a cold. Probably as a result of her being more confident and relaxed in front of Harry, her willingness to stand up to him, and their shared experiences of being a Seeker, Harry and Ginny grew closer and became better friends.

Around Easter, Ginny had had her first real one on one conversation with Harry in the library, during which they ate Easter eggs together. When she persuaded him to talk to Cho (who had recently broken up with him in order to defend Marietta despite her treachery), Harry confided in her that he needed to speak to Sirius, and she encouraged him to do so, even insisting that she might be able to help. It’s around this time that Ginny started to speak to Harry like a friend, and Harry in turn began to enjoy her company, although Ginny bringing chocolate into the library infuriated Madam Pince to the point of violently chasing her and Harry out. Ginny then went to Fred and George, and asked them to find a way for Harry to speak with Sirius. In May, Ginny played her second game of Quidditch for the Gryffindor team against Ravenclaw. She managed to capture the Golden Snitch, beating Cho Chang and securing the Quidditch Cup for Gryffindor. In the aftermath of the victory, Michael became very moody and sulked about the result. Because of his attitude, Ginny dumped him shortly after the match.

When Harry had a vision of Sirius being tortured in the Department of Mysteries by Voldemort on 18 June, he informed Ron and Hermione. The latter convinced Harry to check to see if Sirius was at 12 Grimmauld Place before rushing off to rescue him, and Ginny and Luna came to their assistance. With Harry and Hermione breaking into Umbridge’s office, and Ron distracting her with news that Peeves was wreaking havoc, Ginny and Luna stopped people from entering the corridor leading to the office by saying that someone had flooded it with Garrotting Gas. Unfortunately for them, Umbridge saw through their ruse since she knew of Peeves’s true location and ordered the Inquisitorial Squad to round them up. Ginny was captured by Cassius Warrington, and when Neville saw what was happening and tried to help, he was caught as well.

Convinced that Sirius was in mortal danger, Harry resolved to travel to London and rescue him. Although Harry tried to prevent Ginny, Neville, and Luna from accompanying him, Ron and Hermione eventually persuaded otherwise. Once they were surrounded by Death Eaters, at Harry’s signal, all six D.A. members fired Reductor Curses at the shelves to distract the Death Eaters and began running. Ginny, along with Luna and Ron, were separated from the other three and were chased through various rooms by Death Eaters. In one room containing a three-dimensional representation of the solar system, one of the Death Eaters grabbed Ginny by the ankle. Luna used the Reductor Curse on a model of Pluto, causing it to explode in the Death Eater’s face, but Ginny’s ankle was broken in the process.

Following the battle, Ginny recovered in the hospital wing at Hogwarts where Madam Pomfrey fixed her ankle in a trice. On the train ride back to London, Ginny revealed that she had ditched Michael, who had moved on to Cho Chang while she Ginny had moved on to Dean Thomas.

During the summer of 1996, in her brother’s shop she bought a Pigmy Puff that she named Arnold. On 1 September, she met up with Dean Thomas on the Hogwarts Express, but was interrupted by fellow D.A. member Zacharias Smith, who attempted to get information out of her regarding what had happened that night in the Department of Mysteries. Tired of his continued questioning, she cursed him with the Bat-Bogey Hex and was seen by the new Potions master, Horace Slughorn. Ginny feared detention, but Slughorn was so impressed with the hex that he invited her to take lunch with him as part of a select group of students he hoped to cultivate and induct into his Slug Club.

As term started, Ginny tried out for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, of which Harry had been made the Captain. She excelled as a Chaser and was given a spot on the roster. Following one Quidditch practise, she and Dean were caught kissing by Harry and Ron. She and Ron had a blazing argument over her kissing Dean in public, but Ginny countered that Ron only saw it as being wrong because he had never kissed anyone before. The argument led to a frosty relationship between the two siblings which lasted for quite some time. During the first Quidditch match of the season against Slytherin, Ginny scored several goals to help the team to victory. Following the match, she purposely crashed her broomstick into the commentary box because the commentator, Zacharias Smith, had been making disparaging remarks about the Gryffindor team. Her feud with Ron over his attitude towards her and Dean was worsened when, in the aftermath of the victory, he began going out with Lavender Brown, who he often snogged in public. Ginny branded her brother a “filthy hypocrite” for his actions, but more less seemed to be over the row they previously shared.

Ginny played in the Quidditch match against Hufflepuff, where Ron’s bedridden status forced Harry to play the reserve Keeper Cormac McLaggen. During the match, McLaggen took one of the Beater’s bats and pelted a bludger directly at Harry. Harry was knocked unconscious and suffered a fractured skull. Dean, who had been playing as reserve Chaser in place of Katie Bell, laughed about the incident, causing him and Ginny to have a row. Ginny subsequently visited Harry in the hospital wing. Ginny and Dean were going through a rocky patch, and in April they finally split up when she accused Dean of always trying to help her through the portrait door into the Gryffindor common room. In reality, Harry had been wearing his Invisibility Cloak and bumped into her while under the influence of Felix Felicis, but the incident finally brought an end to their already unstable relationship. Despite the break-up — or because of it — Ginny was still her usually bubbly self and hung around with Harry and Ron more because of Quidditch training. She also defended Harry’s use of the Sectumsempra curse against Draco Malfoy, even if it had earned him a detention that forced him to miss the last Quidditch match of the year.

With Harry in detention, Ginny took the role of Seeker for the Gryffindor team for the final match against Ravenclaw. They won the match and the Quidditch cup, and, during the post-match celebrations, Ginny and Harry spontaneously kissed. Ginny who had never really given up on Harry, was over the moon, as was he, as he had been harbouring feelings for her all year. Ginny and Harry started dating, although their time together was limited due to Harry’s weekly detentions and Ginny’s O.W.L. reviews.

During the night the Death Eaters penetrated Hogwarts, Ginny duelled with Amycus Carrow, but suffered no injuries due in part to the Felix Felicis potion. In the aftermath, Ginny was shocked to find that her brother Bill had been badly injured and permanently scarred by Fenrir Greyback. She was able to lead Harry away from Dumbledore’s corpse and up to the hospital wing, where Harry broke the news that Dumbledore had been killed by Severus Snape. She seemed to accept Bill and Fleur’s relationship after witnessing the love between them.

Ginny took her O.W.L.s, despite the tragedy that had occurred at the school and spend most of her time with Harry. She attended Dumbledore’s funeral, along with several others. At the funeral she sat next to Harry, Hermione, and Ron, instead of sitting with the rest of her family. After the former headmaster had been laid to rest, Harry broke up with Ginny. He feared that if Voldemort knew how he felt about her, she would become a target and he could not knowingly endanger her life.

After the death of Dumbledore, the Order of Phoenix had to move Harry from Dursley’s House to the Burrow, while all her family took active part in the operation she stood behind with her mother, waiting for the Portkeys. Over the next few days, Ginny interacted little with Harry because of their split, despite her feelings towards him. However, while setting the table for dinner Harry let slip that he, Ron, and Hermione were about to set off on a quest to stop Voldemort. This caused Ginny to go pale and comment that she suspected that the trio’s plans were something of the manner, considering Harry’s drive to defeat Voldemort. Harry then tried to convince Ginny that he had spoken in haste and was just kidding, she did not believe it. On Harry’s seventeenth birthday, Ginny confessed that she did not know what to give Harry since anything she gave him would have to be small enough for him to carry around with him. Instead, she “kissed him like she never had before” in the hopes of giving him something to remember her by. She did this in case he meet someone else on his travels, something he assured her would be unlikely to happen. Ginny felt comforted by this and viewed it as the silver lining she had been looking for. However, they were interrupted by a disapproving Ron, with Hermione in tow. As Harry exited her bedroom it was mentioned that Ginny might have for once finally succumb to tears.

On 1 August Ginny served as a bridesmaid at Bill and Fleur’s wedding, along with Gabrielle Delacour. When Gabrielle batted her eyelashes at Harry, Ginny coughed loudly to indicate her annoyance. She wore a golden dress and as the ceremony began, her Auntie Muriel remarked in a carrying whisper that her dress was far too low cut. Ginny responded to this by turning around and winking at Harry.  As part of the new Ministry’s regime, Hogwarts attendance became mandatory and Muggle-borns were being rounded up. Ginny was present on the Hogwarts Express on 1 September, 1997 when it was raided by three Death Eaters in search of Harry Potter. Once at school, Ginny joined up with Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood to restart the D.A. and defy Snape’s regime. They openly defied authority and snuck out at night painting graffiti on the walls of the corridors — “Dumbledore’s Army, still recruiting”. On one occasion, they attempted to steal Godric Gryffindor’s Sword from Snape’s office because they had knowledge that Harry needed it, but were caught and punished. Ginny served detention with Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest and was banned from all trips to Hogsmeade. Ginny and Neville were left to lead the D.A. without Luna after she was abducted by Death Eaters over the Christmas holidays. Ginny didn’t return to Hogwarts after the Easter’s holidays.

When Harry came back to Hogwarts searching for Horcruxes, Neville managed to let Ginny know through the coins they used for D.A. meetings, she came instantly back with her brother’s and family. As more members of Dumbledore’s Army and the Order of the Phoenix arrived for battle, Mr and Mrs Weasley forbade their daughter to take part in the fighting, since she was under age. Ginny furiously argued against it, as it was hypocritical, since Harry was much younger then her when he faced Voldemort all the previous times. Also she did not want to leave when her whole family and Harry would be fighting and wait at home for news. Remus Lupin offered a compromise: Ginny would stay in the Room of Requirement so as to be on the scene, but would not involve herself in the fighting. Although she did not like it, she grudgingly agreed. She proceeded to stay in the room.

On 2 May during the battle, Harry needed the Room of Requirement to change form into the Room of Hidden Things, in order to retrieve one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, Ravenclaw’s Diadem. He asked Ginny to leave the room, on the proviso that she would re-enter it once he had completed his task, not believing that she would. Freed of her sanctuary Ginny joined the battle with a flourish. She and Nymphadora Tonks were later seen by Harry firing well aimed jinxes from a high-up window into the crowd of fighters below.

After the break Voldemort conceded to them to take care of the injured and the dead, the battle begin again and Hermione, Ginny, and Luna found themselves fighting against Bellatrix, who casted a killing curse which missed Ginny by inches, after this Molly took on the battle killing Bellatrix.

After the Second Wizarding War, Ginny and Harry rekindled their passionate romance. She became a professional Quidditch player for the Holyhead Harpies for several years. At some point she and Harry were married and her last name became Potter. Ginny eventually retired and the couple had a family. She gave birth to three children: James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna. She later became the senior Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet.

Xenophilius Lovegood

He was the husband of Pandora Lovegood, with whom he had a daughter, Luna Lovegood. He had to raise Luna alone after Pandora died in a tragical magical experiment accident.

He created The Quibbler which can be described as the anti-christ of The Daily Prophet, since it had been writing everything the Prophet was trying to conceal and more, like the Crumple-Horned Snorkack.

In 1994 him and Luna attended the Quidditch World Cup, in 1996 he published the story of Harry Potter about him seeing Lord Voldemort’s return written by Rita Skeeter, it was a free edition which helped him to gain readers, and Harry to gain supporters.

The Lovegoods used the money received from selling the story to the Prophet to travel to Sweden over the summer to search for a Crumple-Horned Snorkack. When Rufus Scimegour became Ministry of Magic, Xeno wrote an article which said that Scimegour was a vampire, however he was never able to publish it because the Ministry intervened.

In the summer of 1997 he and Luna attended Bill and Fleur’s wedding, where he didn’t miss the opportunity to show his support at Harry. There Victor Krum recognised the symbol of Lovegood’s necklace as the Grindelwald’s sign.

After the Ministry fell in the control of Lord Voldemort, Xenophilius made through the Quibbler his support towards Harry very clear, which he paid high. Luna was kidnapped by the Death Eaters, and kept at the Malfoy’s Manor, Xeno driven crazy by the fear for his daughter, when Harry came to visit him to ask him about the Deathly Hallows, tried to sell him in exchange of his daughter. After Harry, Ron, and Hermione managed to escape he was arrested and sent to Azkaban for he was accused of lying.

Horace Slughorn

He was born on 28th April, by a pure-blood family one of the so-called ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’, which differently from the others didn’t encourage him to make only pure-blood friends, even if they quietly disagreed with Horace to hang along with Muggle borns. He attended Hogwarts and was sorted in Slytherin, where he enjoied the company of many fellows Muggle borns.

In 1931 he came back to Hogwarts as Potions Master, and became chief of the Slytherin’s house. He founded the “Slug’s Club”, into which he constantly invited and served with special treatment particular students with particular stories, who knew important people in the society, who was sone or daughter of famous witches and wizards. He was able to meet Gwenog Jones captain of Holyhead Harpies, from whom he still receives free tickets for Quidditch’s matches, or the Ministry of Magic, or still the predator of Daily Prophet who accept his owl and his option on the daily news.

Besides his club, he tended to treat all his students well, and always respected everybody even if as human-being he had himself his dislikes, in particular towards a student of his own house: Dolores Umbridge who he always had considered an “idiotic woman”.

During 1940 he had the chance to teach to a very particular boy: Tom Riddle, who joined his Slug’s Club not because he had particular contacts in the wizarding world, but because of his skills. Tom ended up as being one of his favourite students, since beside his amazing skills as wizard he was particularly able to prise Slughorn, such as bringing him dehydrated pineapple, even though Dumbledore tried to warn him that Tom was only using him, he never really believed in this, on the contrary he thought that judging Tom this way was completely unfair.

In the 1943 after a dinner with his Slug’s Club, Tom hold over to talk alone with Slughorn, he wanted an opinion regard a dark object he had read about in the restricted section: Horcruxes. At first Slughorn tried to face this as an academic discussion, giving Tom an overview of what they were just thinking that the boy had just some “sane” curiosity, but then the conversation involved in a discussion which scared Slughorn since when Tom understood that to create an Horcrux you must commit a murder, ask Slughorn in how many pieces can a soul be broken.

After Tom left the school instead of picking one of the prestigious careers he had been offered, he started to realise that Tom was probably not was he seemed. When Tom started to ask more and more for the place of Defence Against The Dark Arts Teacher, Slughorn stayed closed in his office so that he did not have to meet Tom, when the first Wizarding War started he heard that Voldemort had reached the immortality and after have learned who was behind the mask, he felt terrible guilty because he thought it was his fault for he had told Tom about Horcruxes. He stayed at Hogwarts, which he considered a safer place, even though Dumbledore knew he was hiding something about Tom, he was never able to understand what since Slughorn was an eccellent Occlumens.

During the following years he had the pleasure to teach to many other exceptional student, one of which was Lily Evans, who became one of his favourites, because of her natural skills for potions. When Voldemort seemingly died in October 1981, Slughorn was even happier than most of the wizarding population. He thought that Voldemort’s “death” meant that he never made Horcruxes and that freed him from having to feel guilty about informing Voldemort about them. However, Dumbledore noticed that Slughorn was particularly joyful about something, which made him gently question Slughorn. Feeling that his secret could be revealed, Slughorn resigned from Hogwarts after having taught there for fifty years.

During the following years though, the new that Voldemort hadn’t died reached his ears, and he started to feel terrible sorry again for the mess he had done, and even scared he wished he had stayed at Hogwarts which was for sure safer alongside with Dumbledore. On 27 June 1995, Slughorn was visited by Corban Yaxley who clearly came to recruit him into the Death Eaters. Slughorn quickly transfigured himself into an armchair and was glad when he was successfully undetected, even though he couldn’t understand what could possibly Voldemort wanted from him, since he had all he needed in his rangs.

He wasn’t able to hide forever though in fact in the Summer of 1996 Dumbledore was able to find him while he was hiding in a Muggle house, whose owners were currently on holiday. Despite he had destroyed the house, faking an intrusion he forgot to cast the Dark Mark above it, which was what allowed Dumbledore to find him. He left Horace and Harry alone on proposed, to allow him to lay eyes on Harry, which was what convinced Horace to come back to Hogwarts, along with the promise to have the old Professor Merrythought’s old office. During the year at Hogwarts Harry was charged by Dumbledore to discover the Slughorn’s memory, which he was able to by drinking the Liquid Luck he won in a potion lesson. Slughorn himself declared that he had the chance to use the Liquid Luck twice in his life, and he describe those days as “two perfect days”.

He took part in the Hogwarts battle, and survived it.

Golden Snitch

Together with the Quaffle and the Bludgers, it constitutes the triad used in the Quidditch game. Its history has old roots, the first apparition is around 1269 when the chief of Wizard’s Council, Barberus Bragge unleashed a Golden Snidget during a Quidditch match, offering 150 galleons to whoever has been able to catch the bird. This practice of chasing Golden Snidgets became quotidianity, putting in danger the bird’s bread. For this reason the bird was subsequently substitute by the Golden Snitch, which provided 150 points to the first seeker that was able to catch it during a Quidditch game. It was invented by a skilled metal-charmer known as Bowman Wright, the Snitch weighed exactly the same as a Snidget, and its rotational wings imitated the bird’s, allowing it to change direction and speed like its living counterpart.

The Snitches have flesh memories and remember the touch of the first person who handled them, in case of a disputed capture. Everyone, including the maker, has to wear gloves when handling the snitch until releasing one for each game. Because of this, a new snitch must be used for each game.

The necessity of a flesh memory was born with the possibility that two chasers caught the snitch at the same time, thanks to the flesh memory the Snitch will recognise who touched him first.
