She was born in 1951 to Cygnus Black III and Druella Black, who raised her teaching her to be proud of her blood-puritness. She was the elder sister of Narcissa and Andromeda. She attended Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin, and she eventually married Rodolphus Lestrange a pure-blood wizard, with who she continued the pure-blood line of the Black family. What did not her sister Andromeda, in fact after she married the muggle-born wizard Ted Tonks she cut off every contact with her. Her and her husband swore loyalty to Lord Voldemort, and together became Death Eaters, in particular Bellatrix will be one of the most loyal. Even if she married him by the way, she never truly loved him, in fact unlike he sisters she never mentioned him in conversation or carried him a child, her true love was instead Lord Voldemort to whom she was used to speak in a “romantic” way.
During the first Wizarding War Bellatrix and her husband fought for Lord Voldemort, and remained loyal to him till the very end, in fact after his fall they were processed together with Barty Crouch Jr and Rabastan (her brother in law), and accused of the torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom with the Cruciatus Curse, but instead of declaring themselves under the Imperius Curse they seemed on the contrary proud of what they’d done, and faced their faith wide-arms, sustaining that Lord Voldemort would have rewarded them.
They were all sentenced to life prison in Azkaban, where they spent the most of the time during the two wars when Voldemort was still regaining his power. When Voldemort regaind his power there was a mass-breakout from Azkaban which included Bellatrix.
After that her, her brother in law, her husband and Lucios Malfoy took part in a recovery shipment to the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry, to collect the prophecy Lord Voldemort had heard about. She first outraged when heard Harry talking about the Dark Lord as a half-blood, when the Order of Phoenix arrived they started fighting she disarmed and defeated her niece, Ninphadora, then started fighting with her cousin Sirius, who was taunting her in the duel, she was able to struck him with the killing cruse, sending him through the veil guarding the Death Chamber. Discovering that his only relative had been killed, Harry chase her in the hall where he attempted to use on her the Cruciatus Curse in vain, when she realised that the prophecy had been destroyed she started panicking and repeatedly attempting to summon it in vain from Harry who laughed at her efforts and dismissed her pleadings for leniency from her master due to being unaware that the latter had just arrived at the Ministry.
Bellatrix pleaded with her master not to be punished and tried to warn him that Albus Dumbledore was nearby, but he ignored her and concentrated on attempting to kill Harry. With the rest of the Death Eaters immobilised and caught by the Ministry only moments later, Bellatrix was the only Death Eater not to be apprehended due to Voldemort intervening on her behalf, a testament to his acknowledgement of her loyalty to him.
After this tragic not successful attempt of catching the prophecy, and more Death Eaters caught by the Ministry, Voldemort let out his rage on Lucios Malfoy who was at the moment in Azkaban, and started to pressure his son Draco, to repay his father’s mistakes. He asked Draco to kill Dumbledore, and even if everybody thought it was a noble chargment, his mother Narcissa recognise it was an affair too big for a boy, so she and Bellatrix went to Snape‘s house, asking him to help Draco in his task. Bellatrix was against this idea since she didn’t trust Severus, but in the end she performed the Unbreakable Vow between him and Narcissa.
During the second Wizarding War, Bellatrix was actually the only family member that was really pleased with the presence of Lord Voldemort at the Malfoy’s Manor, when he however will taunt her referring to her family tree and defining it not “pure” by mentioning the marriage between her nephew and the werewolf Remus Lupin, she will once again show her loyalty saying that she would have been more than pleased to depurate the raw apples from their family tree. Later a group of Snatcher will bring three suspect to Malfoy’s Manor, since she suspected that one of them was Harry, she immediately call Draco to identify him, until she noticed the Gryffindor’s Sward in the hand of a Snatcher. She completely freaked out and started asking where did they get them, when she get that was inside Hermione’s purse, she wanted to interrogate her, torturing her with the Cruciatus Curse, and carving on her arm “Mudblood”.
While she was torturing Hermione, Harry and Ron where closed in a cellar where they found Griphook, and Ollivander, there Dobby managed to apparate and to save Griphook and Ollivander, then he came back to save Harry, Ron and Hermione. He tried to crash a chandelier above Bellatrix, which consented Hermione to escape, when they were about to leave, Bellatrix throw a knife, which hit and killed Dobby.
During the battle of Hogwarts she finally managed to kill her nephew Ninphadora Tonks. After that she fought Ginny, Hermione and Luna all three at once, missing Ginny with a curse by inches, at that point Molly Weasley intervened and managed to hit her in the chest with a fatal curse, after a duel where Bellatrix kept snagging and taunting Molly.
